The Maico 500 Sport looks suspiciously like someone used a Karmann Ghia as a model when they designed it. Built in 1958 for export to the USA the company closed before the car was built in large numbers.
Interestingly it was built in Switzerland by Buetler, the same coachbuilders who built bodies for the Porsche 356 so one has to assume the quality of the car would have been very high.
20hp Heinkel air-cooled 452cc engine with a top speed of 110km.
You have to wonder how Volkswagen would have reacted if the car had gone into production. |
