This is an excerpt, from the British specification, 1973 VW Type 2 Westfalia Continental, campervan handbook, showing the upholstered, plywood-based, elevating-roof bed (maximum rated load of 80 kg or 180 pounds), which was used instead of a folding canvas cot (maximum rated load of 150 pounds), as were fitted to USA specification, 1973 VW Type 2 Westfalia campervans, as illustrated at the following links:
