Frame head fix Posted: Tue Apr 24, 2012 3:49 pm     Views: 77      Rating: Not rated

I tried to straighten my bent beam and tweaked frame head by chaining my baja to a tree and jerking against it in reverse. It worked but I pulled my frame head apart.

I repaired it by cutting out the damaged (and rusted, as it turned out) area, rebuilt the tubes through which the bolts get inserted, and bent a piece of new plate against which the beam sits.

I welded it all together and it works pretty good. It took a lot of mocking up and test fitting to get it right, and it's still off about 3/4" but, oh well, it's back on the road. I used through-bolts with nuts at the back to mount the beam.
