I added this sender to my homemade tank (copied from Leon Korkin's plans). The hole is at the 6" deep side of tank (painted blue) The sender is universal and came set up for 230-30 ohm (empty-full) the VDO gauge requires. I will switch the gauge for main/aux tank reading. The sender on the left is how it comes in the box, and the right one is modified using the directions shown for a 6" deep tank. this was a $18 item
