Westy new wiring harness
Ol Vocho
I'm not sure I'd want to tackle this again, but I have to say that Wolfsburg West has a great wiring harness and makes the job much easier with their color diagrams. There are multiple harnesses within one harness. Now, everything is 12V and it works well with brighter lights.

Fab'd Vert '67 D'Lid for my good friend Lt. Col. Eric Harris USMC, he's been to Iraq twice and is active duty and stationed in Japan. He was able to make it to the VW Classic this year. Great to see him and help him with his amazing '67 sedan.

Saving another vintage D'Lid from the cutters
Ol Vocho
So many of our vintage D'Lids are being cut up for donors. The "cutters" ruin one donor D'Lid to save another, then warp it with bad welding and fill it with bondo. I like to restore the old D'Lids, go in and repair the damage, without sacrificing another D'Lid in the process. They've stopped making these D'Lids and the numbers are dwindling. The new D'Lids that are repop'd just don't have the sheet metal quality of the original OG German ones. JMHO

OG German or new Repop D'Lid inner lower support
Ol Vocho
In auto body and metal shaping I am constantly faced with taking some time to clean up an OG German part, or fitting in a new "repop" replacement part. I'm finding, as we all do, that some of the new repop parts just don't fit. The time it takes you to maneuver the repop part to fit, is time consuming and frustrating. Also, the make up of the content of the repop sheet metal, is inferior to the OG German sheet metal. As an example, look at the difference in measurement, comparing this OG lower innner D'Lid support to a new repop piece. The repop piece is much thicker and the handle stop is located wrong. Plus the lower drain on the repop is shaped different. All adds up to a bad fit for the repop and much time wasted, trying to get it to fit. You would think that if a repop company went to all the trouble and cost to set up new dies to stamp these, that they would develop a better fit and use better sheet metal. JMHO

Repair to '50 D'Lid
Ol Vocho
