Brake pedal stop plate

I've been fiddling with this stop plate for quite a while. I ordered the "longer" stop plate, which is longer but the lip isn't quite tall enough to perform the "stopping" action it says it is suppose to.
I definitely do want to be fiddling with this shit when the body is done being painted.
Any tips or advice?
