Unusual Italian-mfg 4x130 alloys - refinished
Stock Steve
Unusual 15" diameter, 6" wide, 4x130 alloys that I purchased recently from a Samba seller--manufactured, it appears, by "MiM" in Italy... Just picked them up yesterday from my favorite powdercoaters (Shoreline Coatings LLC in North Branford, CT: http://shorelinepowdercoating.com/), stripped and refinished in a beautiful gloss black... Now time to start thinking about tires...

Trying out WWs and Deano rings on the '70...
Stock Steve
I had assembled a set of red 4.5" wheels and 6.00x15 Royalton wide whites for my ratty '69 Bug, and to try out some white powdercoated Deano rings (https://www.deanosvw.com/). This time bought another set of Deano rings, and had them powdercoated medium brown, to try out the setup on my tan '70 Bug. Something different anyway!

Unusual Italian-mfg 4x130 alloys
Stock Steve
These are some fairly unusual 15" diameter, 6" wide, 4x130 alloys that I purchased recently from a Samba seller. I was pretty sure I had never seen them before, and the seller told me that, as far as he knew, they were only sold for one year, by one of the big California aftermarket VW parts houses, which is when he bought them, approximately 12 years ago. I need to study and document the markings on the back more thoroughly, but from what I recall seeing, they were made in Italy. Might have to start up a new thread for these in the custom wheels & tires section of the forums... (NOTE: This particular picture was shared to me by the seller)

Couple of local-driving shots with the Creeky Bug...
Stock Steve
Did a little bit of pleasant local driving with the Creeky '69 Bug, on Sunday evening, July 2nd, 2017, following installation of the new set of sneaks... First was a photo-op in downtown Guilford, CT, in front of historic Page's Hardware Store, and then a stop for some gas at the Leetes Island Road Mobil right by the highway, in Branford, CT...

New sneakers changeover for the Creeky Bug...
Stock Steve
This past Sunday, July 2nd, 2017, I finally had my new wheels & tires setup all together, such that I could do the new sneakers changeover for the Creeky '69 Bug. What were on there were some refinished 14" Minilite-style Western alloys, with some fat BFG radials. The new setup are a set of 4.5" wide, ET46 refinished OEM VW wheels (powdercoated red), a set of "Deano's Smoothie Rings" (powdercoated white), some "Taiwan special" chrome dome hub caps, and some 6.00x15 "Royalton" wide whites, purchased from Lucas Automotive in Long Beach, CA (plus, expert mounting & balancing by my favorite local garage, Stony Creek Auto in Branford, CT). Enjoying the change!

Powdercoated stock steelies and Deano rings...
Stock Steve
Exciting trip to my favorite local powdercoaters' ( http://shorelinepowdercoating.com/ ) yesterday! Picked up my group of five used stock 4.5" wide, ET46 OEM VW wheels with a nice medium read coating, AND my set of four new-manufacture "Deano's Smoothie Rings" that I had powdercoated white. Will add a couple more photos next chance I get--only time for this one shot right now...

New China repro 4-bolt smoothies, backspacing
Stock Steve
Just had some 4.5" wide, known ET46 (per original impression stamps) 4-bolt Bug wheels powdercoated, and decided to compare backspacing of these with the recently-acquired new China-repro 4-bolt smoothies @ 4.5" width (they also sell a 5.5" wide version) that I bought from J-Bugs. Using the old straightedge across the back and then measure down to the bolting surface, both the ET46 VW wheel and the China repro smoothie measured 4.5". So, it would be my conclusion the China repro 4.5" wide smoothie is also ET46 offset. Good to know.

New China-repro 4-bolt smoothies...
Stock Steve
Just received a set of 4.5-inchers, ordered online from J-Bugs (they also have 5.5-inchers). Haven't done anything more than open the box up to look at one of them so far, but it appears to be a nicely made wheel, and what appears to be a nice glossy silver + clearcoat (powdercoat?) finish. Looking forward to getting some tires for them eventually...

Received my Smoothie Rings
Stock Steve
Received my set of Deano's Smoothie Rings ( https://www.deanosvw.com/ ) in the mail yesterday, following a very easy online purchasing process this past weekend, plus excellent communication with the seller (both before and after the sale). They arrived very well packaged, and appear to be very beautifully made! Once I get a set of wheels together to go with them, I'll be making a trip to my local powdercoater to discuss coating options... These are a product that will allow those of us who drive '68 & later 4-bolt Type 1's to achieve an "early" smoothie look for our wheels--be sure to view their web site for more details.

Work commuting in the Creeky Bug once again...
Stock Steve
It has been very rainy here in Connecticut the past couple of weeks. I heard that today was going to be nice, however, and so made plans to drive the Creeky '69 Bug to work today, top-down of course, and it was a positively wonderful experience. This photo is from about 8:45am or so this morning, when I stopped to gas-up at the West Haven I-95 service plaza on the southbound side.

Memorial Day Weekend 2017 Creeky Buggin'
Stock Steve
Saturday evening, May 27th, 2017. The Creeky '69 Bug didn't want to start--no spark. Tried the easiest thing first: filing the points--and now we have spark--yay! Put the top down and made a nice pleasure drive out along coastal Route 146 to Guilford, and a quick stop by the harbor, then over to Stony Creek Village, and then back home. Love this car...

McAusland Ghia as seen at VVWCA Wilmington MA circa '86
Stock Steve
The Chasing Classic Cars Karmann Ghias feature on TV last night mentioned the name of the seller, Elton McAusland, which reminded me that I saw the Convertible and met Mr. McAusland back many years ago when I traveled up to one of Walter Russo's VVWCA Massachusetts meets, in, I think, Wilmington, MA. Here is a scan of a couple of pictures I took of the car that day (the imprint on the back of the photos indicates 1986).

Our collie pup (Finn, age 11 months) came along for a little local ride, around the coastal Connecticut towns of Branford and Guilford, on a really nice early Spring Sunday, April 2nd, 2017.

1970 Bug out and about in So-Conn, 2/26/2017...

Nice to have some clear roads (thanks to an overnight rain shower that hopefully washed off all of the SALT that our local towns love to spread) for a little local driving with the '70 Bug, around the Connecticut Shoreine towns of Branford and Guilford. This picture shows us getting some gas at "Trav's Mobil" on Route 1 in Guilford...

Doug The '60 Bug Meets Christine

Attended a cool car show at Moroso Performance Products in Guilford, CT, this past October 15th, 2016, and was pleased to drive my '60 Bug, nicknamed "Doug." Enjoyed a nice photo-op next to a positively gorgeous "Christine" that was also at the show...

To hopefully help with a request for a couple more pictures of how the 186/65R15 redline radials from Coker look on my '70 Bug (on refinished 5.5" wide original Porsche 914 "hubcap" wheels--the Porsche-specific offset keeps them tucked in nicely), as asked on its dedicated SAMBA thread (http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=457706), here are a couple more shots from Saturday, December 10th, 2016, when I drove the Bug over to the center of Branford, CT, to drop off some new, unwrapped toys at a Christmas toys donation event called "The Christmas Caddy," featuring, of course, a flashy red decorated Caddy. It was a chilly but clear day, and the local high school had some carolers out as well, adding to the festive spirit of the day.

December Buggin' in Connecticut
Stock Steve
Fairly unusual occurrence, but the roads were clear and dry, and the '70 Bug needed to be exercised. This was after a little local run in my town, Branford, CT, on Saturday, December 10th, 2016. Finally put the Porsche 914 hubcaps on (just like VW, but no logos) the 5.5" refinished 914 wheels, and with 185/65R15 redlines. Happy Holidays!
