clutch shaft return spring Original VW vs. aftermarket 113 141 723

Here is the reason why aftermarket springs are so hard to install. They are not turned enough and put also, after being installed, lots of additional pressure on the bushing and the clutch cable . The OE VW spring winding is also not touching and when installed the original VW spring will put some pressure onto the shaft to keep it from sliding sideways.

Has deep rubbing marks, but was not broken yet. Number 2 is NOS VW. You can see they lose next to no tension after being in used for several decades.

67 clutch cross shaft with bushing

I had problems with the clip ring staying in place ( and no, I did not stretch the sh.t out of it ) . Not sure if the groove was cut too deep or if all rings are not made correct anymore. Even the VW ring from the dealer was too large for some reason. To prevent the shaft sliding sideways I did install a bushing ( tight fit ) onto the shaft first and than the clip. Problem solved.
