Failed steering coupling
Wildthings
This coupling was replaced about 14 years ago. It was bought from one of the major VW bus parts vendors and has no reinforcing fabric in it, so instead of cracking like the original VW couplers it just ripped apart. The steering really didn't feel too bad, but it allowed the steering column to raise vertically an inch or so. It is really scary that someone would manufacture and sell such a dangerous part.

Junk in coolant lines, Subaru
Wildthings
This piece of detritus was found blocking the heater bypass line on a Subaru conversion. I believe it came with the engine that was recently swapped in.

Vanagon floppy mirror fix
Wildthings
Use a quality all stainless clamp from a marine store and then lubricate the screw with liquid soap. Tighten the clamp right up to its failure point and the mirror should stay in place.

Sticky solenoid
Wildthings
This picture isn't so good, but you can see the black dried up grease on the inside of the solenoid.
Greased it up with Super Lube after cleaning it up well.

Gas Pedal Repair
Wildthings
I used a standard butt hinge to make a replacement hinge for my gas pedal. One leaf I left untouched and the other I cut down so it fits up behind the pedal. This setup is much sturdier than the original and most replacement setups.
This repair was done about 10 years back and is still working fine, I just need to put a few drops on oil on the hinge every couple of years.

O2 sensor bung for exhaust analyser 72-74 exhaust
Wildthings
Note that the bung is installed a bit too close to the muffler and that the flange on the muffler needed to be clearanced as a result.

Oil leak and dust
Wildthings
Had two minor oil leaks start up at the same time on a longish trek. Drain plug gasket leaking and the distributor o-ring. Sure made a mess.
