Evaporative emissions control system (activated charcoal canister)
Windisch
This is a good image that shows the charcoal filter canister, as well as the inlet line from the fan shroud (#4), the outlet line to the air cleaner (#3) and the fuel vapor vent line from the fuel tank (#1 & #2). Ah! The mysteries of the VW continue to amaze & astound me!

Fan shroud upper right side outlet?
Windisch
The fan shroud appears to have a short metal, half-inch diameter outlet protruding from the upper right (driver's right) side of the fan shroud' I need to identify it and/or its intended function. Super-Beetles also have this outlet, apparently.

Re: Thing owners in Sacramento (CA) Area?

Oops! Sorry! The engine room views I just shared were taken with the 009 dizzy installed, and checking things out further, I think that SOLEX 34 PICT-3 carb shown is NOT mine. The problem is that the car is backed into the garage with my truck sandwiching it in, so getting a current photo of the engine room is a challenge. Attached is a shot or two I took just now. Hopefully they will suffice.

5 Liter NATO style jerrycans added to KubelThing

These images show the NATO steel 5 liter jerrycan installed bilaterally on the rear of 'OTTO'. Now that it's been done, I'm undecided whether I like to 10 liter or the 5 liter treatment, but at any rate, this is the way it shall remain unless I get another serious 'creative' itch in the near future.

These are not the best images, but you can get the idea from them. The standard 20 liter Jerrycan containment 'cages' were used and have been secured to both the bottom sheet metal of the rear parcel area AND to the back of the engine room sheet metal. They have been further secured with rubber bungees, such as are easily obtained from most auto parts stores. Thus, they have been as well secured against impact forces (crash) as possible. 'Triebstoff' is 'fuel' in German; 'Trinkwasser' is 'Drinking water' (cans are marked externally with a white cross on both sides).
