'67 Beetle RR window dent

The largest dent in the '67 is behind the right rear window. It appears someone ran a strap or cable THRU the rear quarter windows and PULLED the car backwards. This crumpled the body just behind the windows.

Additional Aftermarket Alternator
ashman40
Here is a pic of a common fix in countries where replacement VW parts are hard to come by. They mount a common foreign car alternator to the generator and add a longer fan belt. The "new" alternator provides more amps than the original.
Downside: the contact area of the fan belt with the generator pulley is less and pulley slip at high rpms becomes a problem. Since the generator also runs the cooling fan this means reduced cooling at high rpms as well as greater wear on the fan belt.
FIX? A serpentine belt for better contact with teeth to positively drive both pulleys. Also, add a tensioner pulley between the two. The belt would wrap around the generator pulley; loop down to the tensioner pulley mounted to the adjustment bracket on the right and back up to the alternator before going back down to the crank pulley.

Distributor Felt Pad

This is where the felt pad goes. Keep it saturated with oil. The oil drips down the top shaft which is hollow and rides on the lower shaft. This keeps the join between the two lubricated.

Brake Switch Relay
ashman40
The circuit uses a pair of 2-prong (German?) brake switches and a pair of SPDT (Bosch) relays to re-create the Brake Warning lamp circuit.
This will also reduce the current flow through the switches to prolong their life.

Brake Warning lamp relay workaround
ashman40
OP was having trouble with Brake Warning lamp remaining ON while the #31 (ground) wire was attached. This implied the internal transistor had shorted out. The Handbrake/Oil switch input was still working. This relay restores brake switch input function by adding a relay between the HB/Oil/#61 input and the Warning lamp. #31 and #K terminals on lamp should remain disconnected.
