Translation:

“Attack vices rather than complain
about ‘burdens.’ 2 million KdF cars
up in smoke. Excessive use of tobacco
costs the German people 2.35 billion

those cars to drive 50 billion kilometers)!
We need to rationalize our people’s

Converted to burn wood. The wood produced a gas which powered the engine.

1. During WWII approx 1 million vehicles were operated on wood gas including all farm equipment.
2. Over 2000 wood gas stations were set up across Germany selling wood pre-cut to the proper size for burning (the size of matchsticks).
3. Over 500,000 generator sets were produced in 1945 alone!
4. The majority of vehicles in Germany, Russia and Sweden all operated on wood gas.
5. Imbert (the inventor) is awarded the Distinguished Service Cross for his contribution to the war effort.

Karmann Ghia? No, Maico!
coad
The Maico 500 Sport looks suspiciously like someone used a Karmann Ghia as a model when they designed it. Built in 1958 for export to the USA the company closed before the car was built in large numbers.

Interestingly it was built in Switzerland by Buetler, the same coachbuilders who built bodies for the Porsche 356 so one has to assume the quality of the car would have been very high.

20hp Heinkel air-cooled 452cc engine with a top speed of 110km.

You have to wonder how Volkswagen would have reacted if the car had gone into production.

Found this in an envelope with old car papers. My Thing's original Dealer Sticker (note the adhesive has never been peeled back so it was never mounted on the car). Bought it new on 6/6/1973. Sales price was $2750+ $142 for "freight and pre-delivery" + $19 for Dealer Undercoating= Total Delivered price of $2,911.00.

Happy days. I would kill to still have that car.

Notek 125 Series Fog/Spot Light
coad
Notek 125 series light. 5 inches wide and only 2 1/2 inches deep. The red bulbholder glows when the light is lit. Available with fog, driving, and spot light lenses. This is an early 125 light which has a chrome plated rim and the front casting drops down and wraps around either side of the mount. These lights also feature a "micromatic adjustment" feature which allows precise aming of the light by adjusting the mount with the long nipple shaped screw visible on the rear of the light.

This light has a blue "dot" on the lens, but the lights were made in other colors including red, black and yellow. An all blue lens was available as a police light.

Later 125's and the similar 777 Series lights were all stainless steel and lack the lower decoration/extension on the rim. The extension was first squared off and then eliminated. Very late 777 lights lack light-up bulb holders and the micromatic adjustment.

Notek also made the front blackout and rear convoy light on WWII Kubelwagens.
