The Bentley manual says you can only remove 1 piston at a time since you cannot get enough air to push the other out. After splitting the caliper I blocked off the fluid holes and applied some air....removing the piston.

A2 GTI wheel into a 74 super
eviloval
Just got it installed for the 1st time. I've got alot more rework to do to get the whole thing working correctly. But, the small list of mods include: Modified steering shaft (78 top, 74 bottom), modified shaft spacer, A2 adapter (basically a big spline outer, small spline inner that allows you to install a A2 steering wheel into an A1), Modified wiper stalk (cut down 1-1/4" and tweeked to clear the steering wheel. And of course an A2 steering wheel (unmodified).

Once I have this cleaned up and working right (the 78 wiper switch has an intermittent setting) I'll be installing another setup like this into my 72.

Here's a shot showing the difference between a stock ghia caliper and a rear 944t caliper. 944t's will go on my 72.....stock stuff will go on my 74.

Here's a quick pic of the caliper thru the wheel. Don't mind the dirt....these wheels were on my ghia for a while. Now they're being reinstalled on my 72....and my Boxster wheels are going on the ghia. I'll be shaving off the Porsche logo on the center caps towards the end.

After grinding off the Porsche logo and some paint here's the finished fit. Next up is to replace the balljoint bolt that I stripped out. And then some new brake lines to the 944 M/C.

Finished 944t caliper
eviloval
This is a pic of a 944t caliper after I finished grinding off the PORSCHE lettering and ribs from the side of it. Then of course a cleaning....followed by a quick paint (hope it lasts). Reasoning for removing the script is that I will add a Volkswagen script to the calipers after the initial break-in (besides....its not a porsche)

17" on a 70 Ghia
eviloval
Just put these on today....17"x7" at all corners with 205-40-17's. They actually fit much better than when they where on my 69. I took a drive around the block and short of it rubbing the sway bar in front it worked just fine. Now I just have to do the rear brake lines (drove real slow since I was using my ebrake) and change out the front sway bar to a different style. BTW....the front end is a standard beam with old school drop spindles (to add some track).

My 2nd Ghia project
eviloval
Got this 70 as a parts car for $500 to feed my 69's lust for parts. After looking at the pan and body I figured it was too good of a car to cut-up....so....I put an ad up on thesamba looking to trade this car for a later super since I really didn't want to restore/rework another ghia. Well after blowing some dust off things and digging into the car it turned out to be an old EMPI GTV car with a few of its original parts intact (gauges, rear sway, shifter and oil pump/filter combo). Fortunately my trade ad didn't have any decent hits....so it became a keeper. Anyways, the car has a stock beam, 2-1/2" dropped spindles, just added the empi 8's today, stock 1600 with nothing special, I redid the wiring (now everything works....it was an absolute mess originally) and fixed the doors so they close perfectly. While there are a few quirks left to fix (dead ball joints and a lousy interior) I've only sunk $900 into it so far (including the car's original price.....its a driver). Once everything is fixed I'll be installing my 17x7 911 rims on this car (from my 69....which will be using another set I have laying around) and maybe a repaint. But, for now it'll stay like this so that I can take out the little gremlins it still has.

And the EMPI parts that I took off the car. Those will be cleaned up and/or restored and will be used on my 69 when its finished.

Protype 911 dash for a 1302 (last photo)
eviloval
Last one.....FYI the steering column was lowered 1/2" so that the turnsignal stalk will clear the gauges. This was also needed to allow for some room at the ignition switch. At the moment I'm still sculpting my ideas (dark gray spots are actually modeling clay). But I should have everything wrapped up by the end of the week. Then comes the fun part of finishing this whole thing for the mold which should take another week or 2. It'll be more like 2 weeks due to making a dash for my ghia (simple but sweet) which I'll be doing all of next week.

More pics of the progress on the dash. I did some changes with adding (2) pods. The one on the left of the steering wheel will fit the light switch and maybe the hazard light switch. The one on the right is fit the radio or the hazard light (not sure yet).

Close-up of the vin tag......I'm going to be tweaking this area alot more so the vin tag will sit flat on the dash. I'll also need to tweak the area next to the door to finalize the transition between the dash and door. I'll be putting a topic in the 68 and up Beetle forum for input and ideas.

Well....just when you think you've gotten everything set just right. You find out that you have to either cut your dash up to fit the gauges or raise the main pod up. So....the part in red is a new pod section that I had to move up and a little out to ensure that the gauges would fit without cutting the dash in anyway.

Here is another angle of the dash. You can see the 1303 radius section that I put in on the passenger's side better in this pic. I'm going to have to add some more material at the very end so that when you open the door you don't see the edges
