From yesterday at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. It was sitting next to a booth and I saw it cruising around as well. I like the patina.

At first I thought it was the cast CB air cleaners that were holding things up... literally. I just tried the Redline source K&N filters and the results are the same.

To my surprise there is plenty of space between the tire and the bump stop. I'm very happy with the whole setup.

My '68 Fastback: The mechanicals are done!

It only took eight years or so but as of today with the roll out on the freshly mounted rear wheels and tires I'm declaring the mechanical portion of the project complete. Still plenty to do, but it runs and drives.

It is so close in fact that the 1/16" I would gain by going from aftermarket rear drums to OEM rear drums would be enough to make rolling the rear fender lips unnecessary.

If this were an IRS car I would probably have some rubbing issues, but as a swing axle the tires clear by a whisker.

(Finally) working on the rear wheels
jim altemus
My rears, such as they are, are done. The paint came out okay, though I am not happy with either wheel and in particular the one on the left, which was blasted to the point of some of the detail being eroded by the guy I bought it from. They'll work for now, but I am definitely looking for at least one new 15" x 5.5" Sprintstar to complete the set.

Silver is done. Just need to paint the black parts and these are ready for tires. To be honest, these rears (particularly the one on the right) are good 50/50 wheels but I will need to find at least one better 5.5" Sprintstar as a long term solution. These will work for now...

I sold the old wheels before the new wheels were ready so I can't take it for a test drive yet, but just from running briefly in my garage this setup is much quieter than the merged header/stinger setup.

So the filter mount I used with the merged header won't quite work with "normal" j-tubes and the ISP "over the top" header.
