90 Vanagon Megasquirt Conversion for WBX
[email protected]
The stock Bosch Digifant FI was proving to be too unreliable due to the age of the wiring. So I converted it to Megasquirt. Here are some pictures. It doesn't look that much different from stock until you look closely.
No pictures of the ECU, that is simply mounted in the stock location under the rear seat, with an always connected USB cable for the times when I need to tune or monitor the engine.

Door Rattletrap

This is the 2nd layer of sound proofing, the first layer was on the inside of the outer door skin, and the inside of the lowest inner panel that is not covered by the door panel. Door is now exceptionally quiet.

Syncro Soundproofing Project
[email protected]
Our 87' Syncro had NO soundproofing whatsoever, so it was a rattlebox. This is what I saw after removing the door panel, and after installing the Carat Table mount. Note ZERO tarboards. Maybe the guy that put these in was on break when this van came through the assembly line....

Syncro Soundproofing Project

This is after my first layer of sounder deadener on the outside panels. This made a huge reduction in "Tinniness" when rapping an outside panel. Note Carat rear seat post conversion which had to be welded in for the new interior. The stock middle bench seat is really useless for our needs, which is why we did it.

Syncro Soundproofing Project

This is the first layer of sound deadeners in the middle panel, driver's side. This section was by far the easiest to do, since it was all wide open and nothing to work around other than the horizontal support rib halfway up.

Syncro Soundproofing Project

This is the 2nd layer of insulation, I simply transferred this from the Carat that I was taking the interior from. It really helped having the Donor next to the vanagon getting all the gear! I was able to measure and re-measure to make sure I didn't jack it up or forget something.
