Clearing rockers for swivel feets. No need to grind the hell of it. The swivels only move up down perpendicular to the rocker shaft anyway.

Or, you can run a chamfer tool to achieve the same. You just get a bigger hole. LOl.

800HP Go Power Engine Dyno
nsracing
An old engine dyno of the past trying to come back to life. This is my current project for 2013 and see if I can resurrect it back to life.

The brake seems to be in good condition. I am sure there gotta be bearings or seals that need replacing.

I have gone through all the paperwork materials and find this equipment not as complicated as I had anticipated. The meter is hydraulic-operated by 2 load cells attached to the brake body. The movement or resistance/torque on the brake is read on the meter. Hence HP is only calcuted.

So far, I like it. See what happens once I get it inspected/torn down and rebuilt.

Go Power DA-512 series engine dyno. 4- 800 HP capacity.

Should make a nice tuning tool once rebuilt. Got it out of my friend's garage before he threw it out. Had to drive 7 hours each way but I am just glad to have it and very grateful.

First acquisiton/addition to the tool collection of 2013. Finally... my very own engine dyno. YES!

Th1s is an older GoPower rated for 4-800HP. I am working on it now bringing it back to life. Will post how well it works once completely done up.

Had it torn down/inspected. The trunnion support is good but I had to machine fresh bearings for it. I made some nicer and longer/thicker bearings for it for s-m-o-o-t-h movement. LOL>.

Next is construction of the dedicated engine stand. Oh so much to do still....

ProBal 2000 Dynamic Balancer -NSR

It is shown here w/ full calibration I am doing w/ it. The calibration tool has 18.5 grams in each wheel and the machine is picking it up -see windows. This balancer uses a photo-eye to track the movement of the wheel. It gives the amount of unbalances and position in degrees based on the reflective media at 12'0clock (zero degrees). I do all balance jobs w/ this machine exclusively, and I love using it. I still have my Stewart Warner 2000s though. I am also in the process of mounting the dedicated drillhead for this ProBal SWH 2000.

Most stock cranks will be 0.5 ounce inches or worse from factory. Stock flywheels are way out of balance. Pressure plates can be out 25 grams!! These factory tolerances are just way much for smooth running and HP. The unbalance tolerances need to be DOWN to increase performance. It is an expense to do dynamic balancing but well worth it for the life and increase in performance of your engine.

Here is now my ProBal 2000 Dynamic Balancer. This machine will give its unbalance readings in just few seconds. The LEFT and RIGHT unbalances and degrees of location will show up in the windows. I love this machine and it is my main dynamic balancer now.

Dynamic Balancing levels (Yes, there are 3 acceptable levels)

Super Street: 0.5 - 0.6 oz inches crank/ 1.0 g pistons-rod

High Perf: 0.3 -0.4 oz inches crank/ 0.5 g pistons-rods

Full Race: 0.2 oz inches crank/ 0.1 g pistons-rods

Taper reamer and NPT taps for doing proper fullflowing on VW aircooled cases. The taper reamer prevents any splitting on the side of case. The NPT has no side-loading when you finally tap the threads in. Use a taper reamer first before tapping so a simple $50 fullflfow work does NOT turn into a $150 welding work. LOL.

Here are the inserts after machining the holes. The inserts are pressed-fitted in the bores. They also have to be machined slightly shorter than the cam gear so it does not bottom out and prevent full torque on the gear. Works really nice.

I came up w/ this idea to prevent the cam gear from moving. I machined chromoly inserts in the cam gear so the threads from the bolts do not eat the gear. It is a neat idea and I have tried it on a small race engine. After all day of hard passes...seem to work fine and gear/bolts stayed intact.

Here are the inserts fully installed in the cam gear. The ID of the inserts are sized to the OD of the threads of the bolts. So in essence, the bolt act as dowel and the inserts prevent the threads from eating the soft mag gear. Works really good. Sometimes, a good idea does not have to be complicated.

Here are tools I machined for finishing the oil relief for better sealing. YOu use these cutters to trim the bottom of the oil relief bore so the plunger can bottom out properly. The cutters are sized exactly to the bore of the plunger ID so the toolbit is self-centering. JUst do gentle turns to scrape and give the roof a nice finish. Only need a little done to remove some of the factory imperfections.

I used a cylindrical grinder to size these HSS bits to actual dimension. These toolbits will only end-cut. The sides do NOT cut at all. The OD of the tool is slide fit for the ID of the oil relief bore.

Gleason Crankshaft welder

This is my latest addition to the addiction of 2012. It is a Gleason submerged arc welder for crankshaft build up. This will enable a crankshaft to be welded on the journals/mains for repairs or stroking upgrades. Gleason technology is the shit when it comes to crank journal repair and only one endorsed by DETROIT DIESEL to repair their cranks. This is a welcome addition in my high performance shop and to compliment my Storm Vulcan crankgrinder. I will be finally starting my crankshaft project soon. I intend to upgrade the 36HP and on cranks of stock VW German cores and match them to super rods like CArrillo NASCAR take-offs. CAnnot wait.

Another tool acquisition of 2009. Here is my 5th Stewart WArner 2000 Dynamic Balancer. I got this from a gov't surplus auction. Also shown is 1 of 5 Better Engineering Toploader jetwasher...also from the same place. I love using these washers. It is heated, has powerful jets and stainless steel pumps, super quiet and on-timer. Just set it and forget it. Go do something else.

The parts come out super clean you can eat off it. Cleaning is a breeze and save your hands too from all the chemicals I used to buy. Saves a whole lot of time, money, and good for the environment. Very EPA-friendly. Thank you Santa! LOL

My Pro-Balance SWH 2000
nsracing
Mytool acquisition in 2009. A hard-bearing Pro-Balance SWH 2000. The company Stewart-Warner has changed name to Pro-Balance. This is how new-age dynamic balancers are made now hooked up to computers. It costs a pretty penny even in the used market $18,000...$36,000 NEW. The columns can support 2000 lbs.

The machine also came w/ an expensive Enhanced Digital computer. It takes about 15 seconds to get a read on the unbalance..simulataneously done for LEFT or RIGHT column. Just spin it and after 15 seconds you get the read in how much unbalance and where exactly (degrees) the heavy spot. This ProBalance is fully operational now and my main balancer.
Notice the other blue machine on left upper corner, that is a Stewart Warner 2000 analog balancer. I also bought it to add to the collection. Very good machines! Love them so.
