Now that the compressor is sorted given my oddball engine (reverse-rotation 1.8T), on to the rest of the project. Universal Air Conditioner UN0888C under-dash evaporator unit on the passenger side, case modified to relocate the duct outlets for better fit. Modified ashtray to hold the fan and temperture controls. OE VW plastic ducts to the dash vents modified with additional connection so that cold air blows from the factory vents when the AC is on. Modified ashtray to hold the controls

Adapting a Sanden-style compressor to the OEM VW/Zexel compressor bracket. Settled on using the CCW-rotation SD7V16 compressor from an '01-03 VR6 Eurovan. It has three mounting ears, allowing installation with the oil fill/drain plug at 90 degrees from vertical as allowed by Sanden and presumably the companies making replacement Sanden-type compressors.

Adapting a Sanden SD508 to the OEM VW/Zexel compressor bracket with an off-the-shelf York>Sanden conversion mount and some 3/16"x1-1/4" steel. Added material is leftover from building ARB awning mount brackets. The SD508, SD7V16 and SD5H14 are capable of CCW operation and have the same spacing for the axial mounting ears, and I'm using a semi-junk SD508 for mockup purposes.

Need a CCW-capable A/C compressor to use with the reverse-rotation 1.8T engine in my '75 Westfalia. Need A/C to have a happy wife on road trips. If she's not happy, I don't get to be happy. :-)

EMPI Bus CV boots
tristessa
Purchased 12-2003, installed 2-2004 removed 11-2016, no treatment or protective coating applied ever. Oetiker clamps came with the boots and were installed on the small ends of the boots but never crimped/clamped in place. All four came in EMPI boxes, two from Bus Boys and two from Wolfgang International. Dry/rotted on the outside in placesbut no splits or crackes and all still holding grease.

Insulation installed. 1/2" rigid foam with relief cuts to conform to the roof curve. It's wedged into place, then foil tape where the edges hit the wood. It'll be held into place by the headliner panel.

Screen installed, more wood framing around the windows. I'm having to add another layer of 1x2 to give room for the insulation, plus it gives someplace to attach teh bottom edges of the main headliner panel.

14 x 14 Ventline roof vent. When I was shopping for this, the ones without a fan were going for $35 and the ones with a fan were also going for $35. Sure, sign me up.

Waterproof LED "porch light". I'll be wiring it through a PWM dimmer to keep from burning people's retinas out .. this sucker is *bright*.

Starting the interior insulation. Mylar-covered bubblewrap against the fiberglass, 1/2" rigid foam with the foil facing the interior

Undid the straps and installed the windows this morning. These went in the same way as original; reproduction Hehr gasket for the sides and bottom courtesy Vintage Trailer Supply, putty tape across the top. I'll be running a bead of Sikaflex around them and the roof vent when I do the sealant after work -- I do *not* want these bitches leaking water, and I don't trust the putty tape to hold up long-term.
