VWs in background of "Top Gear" (2014)
Rome
In this episode of the American-crew based show (Season 5, ep. 7) named "What can it take", the team take their cheap but hopefully robust vehicles to the Mojave Desert in Southern California. One of the drivers (Rutledge Wood, driving the silver Mercedes-Benz) spots a bunch of VWs off in the distance from their road. The team pulls off to them, with the first "challenge" to remove weight from the their cars. The team stands in front of their cars, with Adam Ferrara driving the green postal Jeep and Tanner Foust in the maroon Honda Civic sedan. The power tools are placed in front of them on the green Beetle hood. You can also see a single port intake manifold, 2 cylinder heads, a flywheel, and a flat hubcap in the foreground.

I've been to this very spot back in the late '90's. It's on Calif. Route 66 east of Newberry Springs (a few miles east of Barstow). I also walked a few hundred feet from the road south towards the outer perimeter of the many VWs, but did not go closer because this was private property and nobody was around. You can see trucks on Interstate 40 in background.

Oil-pressure gauge-sender adaptors for VW Type 4 engine

Oil-pressure gauge-sender adaptors for VW Type 4 engine
NASkeet
Nigel A. Skeet, “How to: Fitting an Oil-Pressure Gauge-Sender, Installation Adapter, to the Type 4 Engine”, Volkswagen Camper & Commercial, Issue 17, Winter 2004, Pages 44~45.

When I submitted this article (which was based upon my own investigation of the then readily available new & second-hand parts that could potentially be used as installation adapters), I marked the photographic prints on the back to show which edge was at the top, and coloured the text for the picture titles and captions in RED & GREEN respectively. Sadly, the magazine layout designers appear to have COMPLETELY ignored my guidelines, so several pictures are incorrectly orientated and it’s more difficult to read and interpret the article than it should be!

At the time, I had not long since completed two supplementary part-time courses in desktop publishing and graphic design using Quark Xpress, Adobe Photoshop & Adobe Illustrator, so I knew what could reasonably be done! Fortunately, more recent issues of Volkswagen Camper & Commercial magazine (first published in Winter 2000, there have now been 147 issues so far, which were originally quarterly, then bi-monthly and finally monthly) are much better laid out these days.

VWs in "Gumball Rally" (1976)

VWs in "Gumball Rally" (1976)
Rome
This movie has already been mentioned in this thread.

Here, the brown Rolls-Royce narrowly avoids colliding with a white pickup in a small town. The Rolls drives into a used car lot, comes out unscathed, but creates a chain reaction of collisions and driver panic. Tan Squareback on right. The pickup smashes into a black 1966 Beetle (note there is a man clinging in the pickup bed), with a white Squareback in background. More VWs in the overhead shot. A panicked driver backs her green Mustang into the repair shop showroom. The action implies the car will run into the red late Beetle on display, but you don't see that in the sequence.

'71 Camper Restoration - Electrical

The original harness was replaced by a very good reproduction by vwlooms.com. The final product very closely matched the wiring schematic in the Bentley manual. A couple of the original links were reused, as well as the original termination blocks marked "VW". The connectors for these terminations are available through mouser.com (Mouser part # 571-42241-2). Copper-Shield was also used on the fuse block terminals, wire and connectors to facilitate conductivity and inhibit corrosion.

Some modifications have been made to the original elecrtical scheme:

1. A 12V electric pump was added for the windshield washer function. The original wiper switch was modified to house a normally open momentary contact push button. The original washer bottle was not modified in any way, other than the hose positions being swapped so that the feed from the bottle was at the bottom where the air filling hose was. The wiper switch appears completely stock, with the washer button switches the pump on.

2. A spare six conductor harness was installed in tandem with the vwlooms harness. The black conductor is connected to the ignition switch black wire via an in-line fuse to open the normally closed fuel cut-off solenoid. The green wire is intended to be used for powering the Speeduino unit - again, from the black ignition switch through the spare fuse on the original fuse block. A relay may be installed later once the Speeduino unit is tested and full load amperage is calculated.

The individual systems have been tested and found to be functioning normally. Some minor fixes and cleanup will be needed prior to installing the remainder of the dash.

Components in the dash have been cleaned, plated, or powdercoated as needed. The wnidshield wiper motor has been serviced per the Bentley manual. The wiring could be a little bit more organized, but this may be sufficient considering where it was prior to the restoration.

I had joined the Der Kaefer Fahrer (DKF) club convoy as we all returned from the Michigan Vintage VW Club meet in Auburn Hills, MI held at VW of America's HQ at the time. The tower is just north of the Canada/New York border 20 miles north of the city of Watertown, NY. We had 3 split window Beetles on the trip, an oval, the red/white Hebmueller, a blue Super Beetle, and my Lime Green '77 Beetle.

Image in Craig Elam's former Hebmueller engne compartment

When I enlarged my original scan of the engine compartment photo in my gallery, the image is a small caricature of a VW engine. Perspective is standing from behind the left side of the engine looking down. Looks too detailed to be painted on; most likely a decal. The coil with bracket, pulleys, distributor and header with stinger or single glasspack muffler are visible, also the left end of a stock single-port intake manifold as well as the two left spark plug air seals. What seems to be a green bird or parrot (orange beak; head looking to the left) "embracing" the engine from the back. Its left "arm" is reaching around the right side of the engine shroud, with a hand holding onto the oil filler area (?!).

Original photo was made with 800 DPI. Image is zoomed in 240x, sharpened, and "highlights" slightly increased.

UPDATE: We were able to find an recover our Westy!

This Green VW bus was stolen yesterday morning in Oakland. She has New Hampshire plates. (339 0526)
She has flexible solar panels on top that are very distinctive (though hard to see) and a distinctive custom interior. You can see both in the pictures attached from when she was purchased.
PLEASE keep an eye out and contact me and call the police if you see her with place/time.
Thank you for your help.

1957 oval with grandpa behind the wheel
vwdna
Thats a ghost behind the wheel!!! Look close do u see the oldman in the drivers seat holding the steering wheel?which is no longer there but now on the rightside.Made this car RHD in 1985 but as u can see grandpa ghost is still in charge. This car once rolled from a Luckys market parking space in front of the store down thru the whole parking lot with a bend thru a intersection on a green light a landed on the center island never hitting anything.I was crying thinking some one stole my bug!untill a lady said no your bug left with no one driving it it just rolled away backwards. Ha ha damn vw e brake sucks! Car was always a problem even for people who tried to steal it.Grandpa said no!!!

Before Disassembly
Exaktaphile
Beginning of trunk disassembly.

The car "had" the late-50's VDO wipe/wash foot switch that I unfortunately had to render inoperable during removal (it's down there beside the steering column). In contrast to the supple VW harness, the VDO insulation shattered and decomposed when I gave it a light tug.

You can see a small area of green primer and a spritz of undercoating used under the Trout Blue on the lower rear half of the inner fenders (from the gas tank to the defroster). 1957 lowlight Ghia.

1979 VW Westy Sage Green Seat Fabric Cleaning
tuxking
Note the untouched drivers seat. Thats what all the fabric looked like when i brought her home. The Passenger seat is after I used my upholstery attachment on my carpet cleaner and went over it about 4 times really slowly. Turned out great.

Help I'd this tent
59panel
I've owned a bunch of sundial and riviera tents. This is different as it doesn't have the grommets or the slide in rope. It ties all around maybe to a roof rack? It's 7.5 feet long, 52 in deep, 5 inch overhang with fringe. No makers marks. It might not be vw but was represented as so by seller on this sight. Thin sundial type material and came with matching bag that was red/white on one side and green/white on other. Want to sell but need to id and price. Seems new but I bought it 10 years ago before the proliferation of repro sun relax camper tent and awnings. Thanks

Early 411 Sedan in EFA Museum, Amerang, Bavaria

Early 411 Sedan in EFA Museum, Amerang, Bavaria
Rome
'68 or '69 411 2-door sedan displayed in the EFA Automobile Museum in the village of Amerang, approx. 40 miles east of Munich. Appears to be Deep Sea Green with beige cloth interior. Rear view mirror without day/night function ('68?), a fingerless gas flap (most other VWs as of '69), and lack of chrome side trim on the driver's side points to a base 411, not a 411 L. Info plaque did not indicate any specific information about this car.

Yellow car in background is an NSU Ro80 with Wankel (rotary) engine.
