Gas Splash 84 Vanagon
philbrane
The tilting of the fuel nozzle works well to prevent gas splash before the auto shut off, but sometimes I don’t want to stand there and hold the nozzle the whole time and want to do other things while filling up the Vanagon. I designed these simple paper origami style splash guards called Splashagon, and took some pictures to show steps and how well these work and man these things work killer, as designed, and saves the side of my 84 Vanagon from gas splash. This may fit other van years but I have yet to see what other Vanagon gas ports are like but i think they kept these the same for a couple years. These are super simple to use and dispose of if you get gas on them.

1966 Beetle Intake Manifold Restoration
oceanarts
Detail showing a rotary cable “snake” I used to clear carbon blocked riser tube on my 1300cc intake manifold. Made the snake from a discarded push-pull (choke) cable salvaged from a small airplane, you could probably find something similar on a lawnmower or something. It worked so well that I wanted to share photos of the cable end in particular, a slight bend in the short clipped solid wire is able to move through the tube without snagging, spins round scraping through the carbon. It took about 1/2 an hour, some light hammer taps along the riser, and compressed air, until finally I broke through the carbon. No drilling holes to weld or plug later it’s on to the blast cabinet now!

67 bug untouched under trunk liner

This 67 bug showed up at my buddys shop, nothing special really. Has rust but nothing to bad, needs a fender from rust around headlight but when he pulled the tank and uncovered this beautiful untouched rear dash panel I almost shit! So I had to share. All the tabs on grill inserts have the OG goop to stop any wind from getting through, speedo cable still has unbroken wax stuff where it meets the speedo, glove box looks brand new and the 12V relay shines so nice. Love it 53 years untouched

My biggest tip for next time is to make SURE the padding isn't lumpy. It shows through. :(

I've been regretting selling this car for years. I didn't hesitate one second to go drive down there and tow it home.

'64 Beetle in "Adam-12"

'64 Beetle in "Adam-12"
Rome
1970 TV show, named "Bank robbery" (season 2, episode 24). Los Angeles police officers Pete Malloy (Martin Milner, at left) and Jim Reed (Kent McCord) are stopped by a man who complains that he spotted a Beetle which has parts that were stolen from him. Said he marked the red fenders and hood "which he bought at the dealer" with 2 or 3 punch marks on the underside of the edges for identification. His Beetle is at home undergoing restoration. Reed and Malloy walk over to the car and confirm the indents. They wait at a distance to observe and try to stop the driver, but get called away to a bank robbery. Rear shot from a distance shows the '64 lic. plate lamp and also an extractor exhaust. There was a good close-up of the rear quarter view a few moments before but I missed it because my camera was still off.

Bonus: Late Beetle at on-ramp in background. IMDB shows location as 3655 Cahuenga Blvd, Universal City (Los Angeles), California.

At the bank location, one of the robbers runs off into the adjacent parking lot right past a '68 or '69 Beetle.

Splittie van in Emergency! (1977)
Rome
TV show, season 6 episode 19 "The boat". Paramedics Gage and DeSoto (actors Randolph Mantooth, Kevin Tighe) walk past a customized mid 1960's van to inspect a V8-powered ski boat that is parked in Station 51's rear lot. The van is sometimes seen in other episodes, parked in the street. Note the Jackman wheels, the Miller-Havens rear flares and side air scoop. The 2nd shot is blurred because I clicked about 1/2 second too late as the shot is transitioning to the fuel filler cap. I only noticed the Baywindow bus in background during my image editing. In 2nd shot, boat owner is Station 51's mechanic played by Richard Bakalyan standing at right. He has another tie-in to VW machinery, stealing the blue Meyers Manx dune buggy in "The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes" along with his mob boss played by Cesar Romero.

Karmann Ghia Windows bends
udo dreisoerner
Hello. I'll show you the two side windows of a Karmann Ghia Coupé because I wanted to know if both windows have the same curve. It was discussed here in Germany that the panes are different. here you can see that the two discs that I have have exactly the same bend. that was my opinion the whole time
