Does anybody know if any specific buses got these voa mirrors? By that I mean, only campers, or just this year to that year, etc. I'm pretty sure it was just a dealer installed option... I'm thinking about installing them on my 58 kombi... Thanks for your help!

| I can only say that my '66 Westy appeared to have these mounted at one time. They are long gone but the mounts still remain. Can't say whether they were OG, put on by Westfalia or the dealer...Can say they will be coming off when paint time rolls around. |

| I bought a '67 deluxe a few years ago, from the original owner, and it had a pair of the same mirrors on it. The lady told me they had added them as a dealer accessory the day they picked the bus up new. |

Say, I recognize that picture! ;) I have no idea, but I know it was a catalogued option.
Who was it that started calling them NorCalRiviera Mirrors?

Ha ha, yeah, I bet you would... nice bus, by the way. I'm under the impression they weren't an accessory way back in the late 50's... Anybody have or seen a bus that old with these on them? |

| first, let me say them is ugly ass mirrors (sorry Taylor). I have a dealership catalog from the mid '60s showing their availability at that time. |

| My wife's '67 Westy came with those. Be careful or you can pooch in your door with the slightest bump. Also when removed the holes are water traps especially at the top. In the sixties we called them "backup", "trailer", or "truck mirrors. Also it hurts terrific if your shoulder gets hit by one going by. |

| Yuck, my 67 Deluxe bears the scars from a set of those....some PO must have had them surgically removed, but the memory remains in the form of the little holes in my doors... |

| I pulled s set of the ugly bastards off of my SC. They're laying around my garage if anyone is interested. I kinow that these are dealer ad-ons but VW should be ashamed of themselves for ever selling them. I wonder if the installer had to go to some special seminar in how to royally screw up a perfectly good set of doors  |

Isn't beauty in the eye of the beholder?
My kid might someday be riding in my bus, so function over form...
Thanks to Em and Aaron for my wide truck style mirrors! :D :D :D |

The reason I'm interested in these mirrors are for functional purposes, and personally, I don't mind how they look. Plus, those cutesy little early round mirrors don't provide a very good view. And come on, four small holes in a door isn't going to "screw up a perfectly good set of doors": cut the drama. My bus is a rust bucket that nobody else wanted to touch and I'll restore it as I please...
I had a '65 deluxe that had holes from voa's (which were long gone by the time I bought the bus). In the 12,000 miles I put on that bus in two years, man did I wish the bus still had them everytime I glanced into those cheap repro vibrating elephant ears...
From what I've gathered voa mirrors were not installed in the 50's, so I'll be looking at other options... probably those silly little round mirrors. Thanks for the input (and opinions) everyone! |

| For functionality, as long as you have a rear passenger window bus, get yourself a clip on panoramic inside rear-view mirror. There are enough windows even in a Kombi to see everything behind and alongside you without even using the little round rearview. I almost never use my passenger side mirror, as the angle of view is so small. The driver's side is aimed to see alongside, but for any other views, I use the panoramic interior mirror. |

LOL...no offense taken. I tend to like some more of the odd, unique stuff. If nothing else, those mirrors make it easy to hang stuff out to dry when camping.

I LOVE that shot!
Took that when I was bringing home my deluxe from Denver to New Jersey in 40 hours of driving. (38 on the clock due to the time zones changes) |

| great pic's pickens, now back to the post. i'm old enought to remember things from the sixtys. thoses mirrors were sold on the market for any thing you wanted to put them on (my dad put a pair on his new 67 chevy pickup). vw probably had them packaged for them, for resale. AND i don't want to here any dumbass shit about my age..... now back to my nap. |
