I found this behind my drivers seat, and I have no idea what it is 8) I was thinking maybe for the jack, but I would think there would be scratches on the original paint. I found a bunch of these, in 2 sizes, in a box of parts I got in December as well.

Also, what a cool Bus. http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=128986

I've never seen a Champaign edition with a camping interior, wierd plaid and cabinetry too. All around a really cool Bus.

I think that strap is to hold the roll up tool kit in place. I've always had some flares there and the roll up tool kit under the passenger seat...thats just the way it was when I got it about 7 or 8 years ago.

I kinda thought that bus was ugly with that dark wood and itchy looking plaid. I do like the Champagne Edition Westfalias though...would love to find one of those!

I've always wondered what that strap was for too.... :-k

That CE bus is a Riviera; all the Riviera conversions of that era have similar interiors. Way too dark for my taste and not as nifty a layout as Westy, IMHO. But I really admire the way that bus has been kept in top original shape. Very, very nice condition.

that strap is used to hold the accessory table that attaches to the dash over the shifter. the table leg is stored there also. ever wonder what the 2 cleats on either side of the ashtray were for? its for this table.

Never seen that table before. got any pictures? Anybody selling one!?

from the manual for a later bay ( a 78 ), but you get the idea. the instructions in the bottom right, tell you to keep it stored behind the drivers seat.

Man I would love to have that Rivi! I love Champs and this is the first time I have seen a Riviera conversion (better than a Westy IMO, Rivis actually have a real fridge than can make ice instead of melt it) on one. Too bad he wants $12,000 for it  :(

1) that is NOT a Westy. It is a Riviera camper.

2) that strap will NEVER hold the Westy front table in place. TOO short.
it is only at the most 8" long. On 71 WESTIES, that strap is also on the pass side bulkhead.

3) the strap for the Westy front table is round and has a hook on the end, just like a regular bungee cord. I can take pics and measure mine if you want.....
