Just wondering who else was going to the Bug-In in Fontana on Sunday. Supposed to be the biggest VW show on the west coast (maybe in the country?). From what I've heard, bigger than the VW classic. |

I will be there. I am trying to get somebody to share a swap meet space with me, I have a post on the Shows/Events forum. I will be heading east on the 10 freeway from the 605 freeway. |

Can,t miss this one. Really hope to find lots of parts I need or vendor show discounts for new stuff.
Steve, saw your post over there, how come you leave at 11 am? Will all swappers do that? I will be there at opening at 7am. going on Sat. because my Bus really needs some attention (don,t they always?)
8) and booked a Bug-In rate room at the Hilton. Thought about camping but those Spilttie people can be rude and I don,t go for that. Hope you have some things for my '69 I can buy from you--my list is long! |

I'm with you on the splitty attitude. I thought about camping, even though I'm only about 20 minutes away, just cause it would be fun, but the thought of being surrounded by splitty bus people looking down their noses at me put that to an end. Too bad, cause some of them are nice people that really don't care, but I guess a few bad apples spoil the barrel. |

Dude? What are you guys smoking? Or where are you getting your information???? Who's being rude or sticking their nose up to you? Tell me....I'll kick their a$$ for prosperity
Seriously though? The Glenn Hellen campout is being hosted by VTO & SV2 but who said no Bays? In fact they got a 70 sunroof for the Sunday raffle??? Heck, last VTO meeting a Bay from Rancho cruised out... I belive I was one of the first ones to greet them. Razzing is all fun and good but if your feeling are hurt get some therapy.............or get a split  |

WTF? I thought busses were busses, yes there's splits and bays and vanagons, but why not come out and join the crowd. IF i didn't have prior commitments I'd be there. |

I really, really don't get this Split Bus attitude. For the record, I have yet to experience it, but I hear it enough that I believe it. It just seems so ridiculous.
It reminds me of something I'm more familiar with, which is bicycles. Mountain bikers and road cyclists have a hard time getting along. Now, consider that out of 100 people, 2 of them will be cyclists of any kind. And then to imagine those 2 people, one a road cyclist and one a mtn biker, arguing with one another to further segment their group... it just seems completely asinine.
People who are nuts about VWs are such a fringe group. Any kind of VW. To break it up even further seems totally pointless.
Six months ago before I got into VWs and starting paying attention, I couldn't even tell a Splitty from a Bay. To act like there is SUCH a big difference between the two (other than price!) is silly. |

Bottom, The Bug-In is for all VWs. The camp thing is just a place close by for anybody to camp. Do a search on Bug-In and read all the events and cool things going on all day for bugs, busses, off roaders, racing ect. |

Like I said, not everyone, but always a few bad apples. The majority of people I've met are great VW people, but I've got the snub more than once. My feelings aren't hurt. I'm as proud and passionate of my bus as you are of yours. It just gets old. Velokid, I think the splitty attitude only seems to live in California (judging by bus prices out here, makes sense!) and I totally agree with you on the Mountain biker and road cyclists analogy. |

That one is true - A few years ago I worked at a Toys R Us assembling bicycles, ride-ons, play structures, etc. One of my buddies there was a hardcore mountain biker, competed in the X-games, etc. and would poke at "roadies" when the mountain biking vs. road cycling topic came up.
He had a bus too, a tattered red '70 Westy. Cool guy, I wonder what he's up to these days... |

Bay Windows are not Vintage VW's.
I really don't like buses anyway, but I refuse to even acknowlege a Bay Window as a VW.
The same applies for post 67 T1's, and all Ghias.
Define Vintage...
If you define classic, it's considered an outstanding example.. In most states, they include vehicles more than 25 years old. Now go to 50 years and you're in the Antique World.
So While the Bays may not be Antiques they may be Classics. Just like their older brothers they're disappearing too. And when they do, that will make bays just as nice to have as an early Split is now. |

I ride off-road and on the road. A day spent on my mountain bike? Sweet! A day on the road bike? Sweet! A day behind the wheel of my bus? Sweet! A day on my Harley? Sweet! A day on a dirt bike? Great! You get the picture.
You know, it's a hobby. A hobby. If people are taking their VWs so seriously that they fight about them, might I suggest they focus on another hobby for a while?
Sorry to be a thread hijacker, by the way. I wish I could make it to Bug-In. Saving my pennies (and my vacation days) for the Iron Horse Classic weekend in Durango. |

Look for me out there Elswood-Bluesvan. I will be in the mean green '71 bay bus with hawaiian print curtains. I got some pretty good stuff. Good early bay front bumper guards, a perfect cargo door step, some deluxe bus chrome trim strips, etc. Nothing that will actually make your bus run.
Bottom, you can roll with me and we can look for hippies on the way over there. |

Boxon, I am going to try and hook up with the group at the Fairplex exit. I did get a swap meet partner and I just need to be able to pick him up and get to the gate before 7:00 AM. Should all work out fine. |

Hey, I didnt mean to imply that spilt owners weren't cool or anything ect. As I said, I met some nice folks at the OCTO show but I'm into the baywindow bus. I just dont get off on splits. As a matter of fact I can only gaze at other peoples baywindows for so long too. Now, looking at MY OWN bus... well, I could sit there for days and contemplate...
You guys have me convinced. If I had the time, I would go but I've got loads of recording to do all weekend. My band is on the right track and we're getting closer every day to having this demo finished.
Steve, good luck with the parts sale! |
