I used the same pic and measurements above when I drilled the fenders for my heart tail lights. If I'm not mistaken that is 25mm and not 26mm so the total vertical measurement is 60mm.

That is quite rough measurements if you ask me...

Well I measured it out according to the metric diagram and they still sat too high so it's gotta be down to what brand of fender you are using as well

For the zwitter taillight position is that the same for European cars also? and what is the diameters for the holes?

I'll bump........yes, what are the diameters for the holes?

I'll throw this question onto the thread, I guess it's the appropriate place. Are the Heart and 55' Egg tail lights measurements the same? I have aftermarket fenders, and nothing to match up. Thanks!!

Yes they are the same.

Hebster mentioned that the above diagram is somewhat of a "rough" measurement. I disagree.

The most important measurement is "how high are the tailights"? The above diagram answers that. Regardless of what rear fenders you have (OG or aftermarket) as long as the top of the housing is in line with where the fender & apron curve outward you're good to go. Now with the height established, the outside of the housing is 5 1/8 inches outward from the beading......done. With those 2 measurments anyone should be able to correctly position pre-55 tailights.

All of those metric measurements help...no question, but once the position of the housing is established, everything else falls into place.

I found this in the "readers rides" forum and thought it shows the placement of the early oval tail lights. I know, they are eggs but the shape and placement are the same. They are really low like looking through the overrider bars.

No wonder why there are so few Early 55's around! U.S. mandated the use of the over-riders and went ahead and hid the small tail lights!! I know when my 55' is road worthy, I will have the lights low, over-riders installed, but will definately add a 3rd brake light inconspicuously somewhere for MY protection!! Great Pic!

I got pulled over by a state trooper a couple of years ago for having my lights blocked by the overriders--I got off with a verbal warning. My mistake for going through an area where the troopers were setting up for a DUI roadblock...

The cops are the same way around here, that's why I need to figure a way to mount a 3rd brake light somewhere that it will only show when brakes are applied. I bought a vintage School Bus "STOP" light, but it's the bigger one, and looks really tacky.

Anyone know the diameter of the holes?

I don't know if this helps but I found this on an old file on my laptop.

Thx but this is the one for past heart light
I need the diameters for the heart lights itself.
I guess I'll just measure my brackets and guess the other holes

for the gasket or seal 1/2 inch, and for the bracket 1/4.
