Apart from aesthetics, is there any reason I need to use the traditional braided negative battery cable? I put in a large battery (24F) and the existing cable is an inch too short. I know I can buy a longer braided cable, but can I get away with one I can pick up at AutoZone or wherever? Thanks in advance |

Yes. Bigger diameter is always good also. I like these vendors for custome cables. Any size, ends and length

Brass battery clamps (as the OG VW battery cables had) will out last lead battery clamps many times over if not overly tightened. OG VW cables had the battery clamps soldered to the cables. Where the usual FLAPS battery clamps are just swedged onto the cables, which can fail allowing in corrosion in between. |

Other than that the non braided will work fine. |
