I got my copy as a gift the other day and it is very cool, a fast read. I'm ordering his other book and sending along a pic of me & my bus too. Being I am new to the VW Bus world I have learned lots just by reading this book but unfortunatly I didn't take notes so I'm rereading it again and underlining all the cool technical info. I love technical info. I didn't know our buses are designed to move 2K lbs, did I get that right? If this is true shouldn't I be able to tow my Austin Healey Sprite which is around 1.5k lbs? If so what is advisable a tow bar or a small trailer? I would like to use my 67 Westy with 1600 DP to tow my Sprite to car shows in the summer.

Get the book it will help you get through the winter. :bus_blue:

I am not a good "book" reader. Most books go unread by myself and I have a vast collection. If it grips me though, I can actually get through a complete book. The Bus Will Get You There book did keep me going and I actually ready the whole book in a few days while camping last year. I am a slow reader. <grin> His other non VW related book I got a few chapters read but did not keep my interest as much. I will still read it but maybe I was burned out reading a whole book while camping and could not do another the same trip. I will try his 2nd book again this camping season.

Real nice guy he is.

Cool books.

Get them!

I passed this book along to my friend who is not into VW buses but enjoys reading. Turns out to be a good read for the non-VW person. Good way to get your friends to appreciate our hobby :D Some of you may be disappointed because he has no pictures but it will improve your reading and mental imagery techniques.

I just got a copy of this book. I can't wait to read it.
I sent him a picture of myself and both of my Buses, and wrote a little note with it.
He responded with a message written in the front of the book, and his mother is from Mobile, Alabama, very cool.
He commented on the condition of one of my Buses and said "With a little care and feeding, these things have a way of lasting about 2 days short of forever."

Thanks tubdub, they arrived safely this morning 8) (and I'm getting another run of SEMAPHORE! warning stickers soon! As soon as I get them one will be winging it's way over to you  )

The cool personal notes John puts in are spot on! From someone who loves books and reading, that's a really nice touch =D>

A belated thanks to all the guys on here who helped out with the article on John's books in the Split Screen Scene!

And an even bigger thanks to the man himself, who went above and beyond the call of duty when we organised a group bulk order to the UK! Thank you so much John! You have a big fan club in the UK now!
While sorting this order out me and John have been swapping several letters across the pond... his letters are even funnier than the books and leave me in stitches! And always with a little something tucked in, a homemade postcard or bookmark... the letter I recieved yesterday included a 'Cyclonic Vacuum Diffuser' and instructions on it's use! 8)

The first UK book order went so well a second batch is already on the cards...

I can't thank John enough, and can't recommend his books highly enough =D>

So cool to find this on here.. I met him about 7 years back, before my oldest son, River was born. At the time i had an old Chevy van that i had lived/ traveled in all over the country, but told him how hard it was for me to settle down back in WI.. He said ''You still have your van?'' I answered with a smile, and a ''yup'' And he said ''good, if the woman kicks you out, you'll have a place to live'' One of the nicest, people at the Iola Car Show that year, and there was always a big crowd around his splitty..... He was the inspiration for me to both buy a VW bus, and make a woodstove for it.... WI winters get cold!... Also, my favorite book to date.

...Oh, and just for the record, the woman DID kick me out, and i WAS back in the van for awhile lol
Well, I'm glad that this was my first post. :)

Is there anyway of buying his books if you live in Australia? I'd love a copy but there is no contact details on the website and cheque/ money orders are expensive to organize from here.

I sent a letter and a check to Lunchbreak Press at the Oshkosh PO Box and it just got returned. Anyone know if the book is still available or anyone know how to get up with the author?

thanks,
Dave
