I was changing the drivers side tie rod... and bent the old one and never got it off. Now when I drive and turn the steering wheel the car shakes like some thing fierce... is it cause the bent tie rod or could I have done something else?? also helpful hints on getting these tie rod ends off?? 71 superbeetle... lots of thanks.. need to get back on the road! :?: :?: |

I thnk thinking that bent tie rod is causing one wheel not to turn in sync with the other, which is causing your shudder. You have to pus the tie rod ends out at each end of the tie rod in order to remove it (special tool). And you're going to have to get it aligned as your toe-in will be off. Might just have to take this one to a pro... |

A bent tie rod definitely will change the geometry of the front end, which can cause the wobble...I've had pretty good success using a pickle fork (tapered 2 prong fork) and a big hammer to remove tie rods...If you're not going to reuse it, you can also tap downwards on the bolt, after removing the nut...of course, spray it down with PB Blaster or something to help loosen it up...if it still won't budge, you may have to get some heat involved to loosen it up, but be very, very, very careful with that... |
