View original topic: 12v Generator Part Number
Nie zu alt Sun Jun 05, 2005 8:51 am

I recently brought home a 36 hp VW engine that has a "small" diameter 12v generator. I know this is a common conversion using the same generator used on a 356/912. Can anybody verify the part number and tell me what it was used on? I need to get the correct pulley, spacer and nut and want to make sure I get the correct parts.

The part number is:

Bosch 0 101 206 116
14v 38A 32

Thanks,

Doug

I can't remember the part numbers offhand now, but that sounds like the one I used to have on my 62, which I bought from Wolfsburg West like 13 years ago now.

Interestingly enough, I just spotted the correct "matching" regulator for this on eBay:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi...S%3AUS%3A1

Which is rated at 25 amps, which you would think wasn't the right one for the 38amp generator, but accoring to Bosch, it is. I used one for several years with no problems. (I drilled and tapped an extra hole on the generator so that I could mount the regulator on top of it so it looked somewhat original and didn't have to alter the wiring)

Now, the tin, pulley, etc, you should be able to use normal stock 6Volt pieces to make this work.

Andy,

Thanks for the info and the lead on the regulator. I never thought to look at the regulator that came with the engine. I just returned from the garage and I actually have 2 of those. The one that came with the engine is a 14v 38amp (same as the generator) and the other I have is a 30amp version. Both look identical to the one on ebay.

Over the weekend I went to a Concours and was checking out the Porsche 356's. I did not find any that had a gen. with this exact part number. Some were close with the last 3 digits of the part number being "113". Do you have any info on the different part numbers? Application or just evolution in manufacturing? The gen and reg I have are Brazilian.

Thanks again,

Doug

The one I had was Brazillian as well, but WW sold it under the Bosch exchange number, which I think was GR26X.

The regulator came with it, and I later replaced it by ordering the one that Bosch had in their catalog for that generator. I think it was stock for one or two years on Porsche. It was the same as the one listed on that eBay auction. It has a screw-plate for the B+ connections like the pre-65 6V original regulators had. Now, these 30 and 38 amp regulators you have, I suspect have the large push-on terminals on them for B+, the 30 is probably a normal stock "068" Bug one, the 38 is likely a 69-71 Bus one. I'm sure they both would work with the small diameter generator though.
