I'm looking to replace the rear apron on my '61 and want to retain the "T" handle. I've been on the lookout for a decent 61-64 apron and I'm not having much luck so I'm thinking I might have to consider a later apron and modify it to work. I've read posts where folks have fabbed up their own catch to use the 65-66 apron on the 64 and older bugs. Is the only major difference the decklid catch? And, if so, can I just drill out the spot welds holding the catch on my banged up apron and then weld it to the new 65-66 apron? I'm only going by pictures but the aprons look the same other than the decklid catch. |

that's exactly what you can do. you can honestly even make a catch out of some thick sheetmetal. i was gonna do it for my 62 but i was lucky enough to find a NOS one |
