View original topic: Muffler & Exhaust help needed for Single Cab

Here is the 1600cc engine I am pulling from my 1960 Single Cab that has an oil leak I need to find and fix.

I DO NOT like this muffler/header setup that the previous owner used. I prefer a more stock look. By the way, what brand or kind of exhaust is this???

Can someone here tell me where and what brand of muffler/exhaust setup I can install on this engine and have it appear more stock for my 1960 model year. One that has a muffler that is long and narrow like an older 40HP model would have. One that mounts like a 40HP would with a small muffler tip. Is there such a thing?

Goal is to make it look more stock.

I would have a muffler shop weld you up a single glasspack that tucks up higher. Bring them a picture of a stock bus so they see what the tailpipe is supposed to look like, and there's a better chance of them matching it.

By the way in case this matters, the engine is a 1973 1600cc serial numbered engine in a 1960 single cab.

Just need to make sure whatever I buy fits the engine and mounts to the single cab properly.

why dont you just buy a stock german exhaust? they look just like what would be on a 40hp.

That is where my confusion is, I have a 1960 vehicle but the engine is a 1973 engine. 1600cc engines in 1973 were being installed on Bay busses (I guess??) or Beetles, not splitties, so what model year muffler do I buy that will mount to my engine but yet still also mount proper on my splittie and have just one tip since stock buses had one muffler tip, not two like a Beetle.

So if someone can tell me what year muffler to look for and what it went to in the 70's but yet would also work for my old beast. Places like Mid America Motorworks show all these mufflers and have year ranges they work on but that confuses me in that is it the engine year or vehicle year, etc...

A link to one for this numnuts would be great. hehehe. I am just confused I guess.
