Is the lack of insulation on the solenoid to starter wire ever a problem? Makes me uncomfortable. What’s stopping this from grounding out on the starter/ solenoid body?

The part of the solenoid it's against is plastic, but the condition of the rubber grommet where it enters the motor is a little disturbing, don't poke at it. |

Yeah, there’s the grommet too. But in regards to the wire. If it touched rhe metal body of the starter wouldn’t this cause problems? The starter is grounded through its mounting bolts and if the hot wire from solenoid to starter touches the metal starter body then the current would ground pre maturely before passing through the inner motor. Is this right? |

you are right but remember the pigtail is only hot when the key is in the CRANK position. I have seen some tube or insulation on some of these and in salty climates some grease stops these from melting, too. |

If you have a mom and pops auto electric shop near you get a new grommet for the hole where the wire enters the starter body. If you have a problem with the wire grounding out there is a 99% chance it will be with the grommet. |

Thanks guys. Will swap out for one with a better grommet and probably add some insulation on the wire for peace of mind. |
