I just got back from a 2300 mile trip from The Netherlands to Sweden and back again in my girls 72 notch....
We went with two friends who drive a 68 notch.

In Sweden we went to a wreckingyard out in the woods.
Well, wreckingyards.....it's more of a open-air museum!!!
Over 1000 cars! Most pre 65, and among them a lot of VW's
Ovals, Splits, type 3's, busses and even two Barndoors!

The place is called Tockfors and it's on the border of Sweden and Norway.
None of the VW's could be saved.....

Oh man... :cry: That is sad. NONE could be saved? Were they all too rusty or what? I like how they all look the same after sitting in the same yard for so long, matching patina.

Pretty cool stuff! I know you said none were salvageable, but that one barndoor looked like it would be worth pulling out. Is anything for sale?

We have a similar junk yard here in Colorado in a small town called Erie--except all of the buses are pretty well preserved in our extremely dry climate. The yard has 30+ split window buses that are being used as a combination perimeter fence / storage sheds. Fortunately, there are no barndoors and no deluxes, but there is a ton of original logo glass with just about every VW logo style you can name. The owner absolutely will not part out any bus, BUT, if you pay him $1500 to "replace" the storage shed, you can have any bus on the lot. I've gone over them all and just can't justify $1500 for any single bus out there though some would be good deals at $300 - $500. There's a 1960 mango with a really straight nose, but certainly not worth $1500. His price used to be $1000 but I guess the bus frenzy of late has driven his prices up. It's a shame to see all those good parts just sit there.

One weekend, 6 motived individuals, and a very long extension cord could net several thousand in very decent parts....sigh....

Those pics look a lot like W WA. And we have fjords here too. :P

That BD is long gone.
Not only is it missing all of it's small parts,
the gutters are rotten, floors, rockers, frame, nose, ect. ect.....
It's gone.

Eventough some cars may look solid they're not.
They have been sitting in a very wet climat for years
so all of the edges are rusty and/or crusty.

Once you start removing the rust you'll probably end up with
a pile of sheetmetal....
It's sad but true.

I know that alot can be done but with al the parts that are missing
it would not be worth it....

Where is the guy from Eastern Europe that was restoring the blue single cab that had broken in half from being rusted out a week or so ago in the gallery? After looking at his rebuild photos, he could probably whip that barndoor out in a week. Props to that guy, whomever he is.

"The Unit" is actually in Bangkok, Thailand. The early Single Cab he is working on is pressed bumper, Right Hand Drive, semiphored, and factory safari'd.

Whoops!!! Thanks BUCIOBATISTI guess I was off a bit on location (like half way round the world). but that single is really an undertaking. I think about what we cut up as "unsaveable" 20 years ago and what will the basis for a restoration will be 10 years from now.
