| I have been fooling around w aircoolded stuff for 50 years but just recently got interested in a Type 181's. Some of the better ones for sale just have the bikini/bimini style tops. It rains here alot so I would only consider a full top. Since the Things with Bikini tops don't have the metail attachment loops on the body is there a way to install a full top? |

All Things have those attachment loops. If a bikini top is mounted, those attachment points just aren't used but they should still be there.
If a Thing doesn't have those attachment loops, they have been removed.

Those bikini tops are so expensive new, I'd be willing to try making my own too, if I had some plans/measurements! I'm really surprised someone hasn't come up with a decent alternative top. Wish I knew if Jeep bikini tops could be modified to fit a Type 181....

I did a search for various types of tops, and because I had a factory type rollbar decided to use this as the frame.
The issue was how to attach the canvas to the windshield frame. I built a header out of hardwood from Home Depot, the canvas wraps around and over, then added some flaps to attach to the rollbar.
You will figure it out as you go!
