View original topic: Fuchs, how do I tell if they are real Porsche?
WayneD Mon Aug 22, 2005 1:01 pm

I have a set of 4 Porsche Fuchs that I gathered from my girlfriends grandfather. There are some numbers on them but I can barely read them. These things need to be replated, but have NO curb rash, and look pretty cool. Anyhow, how can I tell if they are genuine? Anyone know of a place that I can look up some numbers that I have? Any type of sequencing I should look for?

Thanks.
I plan on selling these, just want to make sure they are real, before I post them as real. The two fronts look to be about 15x5 or 15x6 and the rears look to be 15x7. The rear tires are really wide.

Real Fuchs are very light when compared to Forged Aluminum replica wheels, do to the fact that they are made from Forged Magnasium which is lighter and stronger. I believe that the numbers cast on the inside should start with 911 and have a series of other numbers after them. Be careful what you use on real fuchs to clean/polish them because they can become damaged. If these wheels are chrome plated they probably are not real. :)

They should have a 901 part number.

I stand corrected.

You need to do some more research.

Genuine Fuchs are Forged aluminum. The Mg content is less than 2%. This came directly from Fuchs in Germany.

Replica Fuchs are never forged, always cast.

Some Fuchs have part numbers starting with 911, some with 901

Bykerdude,
I have a 911 and I also have a list of Porsche part numbers for wheels. If you can read part of the numbers, give me a call at 951 852-2719 and I'll look them up to help you figure out what they are. I can also recommend a guy who specializes in refinishing them.
Cheers,

these four or five lug Fuchs? (four lug being the "2 liter 914 style", five lug being the 911 style.)

reverie Sun Dec 11, 2005 4:32 pm

The part number for the 4-bolt Fuchs wheel is 914.361.011.01, which is a 5.5Jx15 forged aluminum alloy wheel, weighing about 13 lbs by most accounts. It is not in the above list.

The above list is a partial list of 5-bolt 911 and 944 Fuchs wheels.

edit to include the weight of the 4-bolt Fuchs..

Ozzie Tue Dec 13, 2005 2:42 pm

The 4 bolts' also have a VW emblem (914. pn).
UPS Digital scales say 13.5 lbs., bare, no rubber, no stems, no weights.

i thought 911 fuchs were forged magnesium not alunumun.
the 914 wheels are supposed to be the lightest wheel porsche ever used i think.

Glenn Mon Dec 26, 2005 7:59 pm

Fuchs are forged aluminum.

Mahle 5x130 "Gas Burners" are magnesium.

Most other Porsche 4 and 5 bolt are cast aluminum.

From what I understand, REAL Fuchs taste like chocolate . . .

Like Glenn said, Fuchs are forged Aluminum.

The Mahle 5 lug "Gas Burner" is 5.5"x15, and is the lightest wheel ever fitted to any Porsche at 9.7lbs. I'd go on to say it will retain this status as modern wheels get larger and larger.
