I have only had my baja for about two years and have not done any modifications to it but I bought an 091 tranny, the weld on mount kit from Chirco, and the Jamar Super Shifter. I plan to install them within about a month. and I hope to buy some poly seats at septembers bugorama in Sacramento. I also want to start buying suspension parts slowly to prepare for my bajas transformation. And since I am an 18 yr old student, and still living at home I work and spent almost every dollar on my VW.

i used to run 2x4 trailing arms but termites kept eating them. :?

traviswx1 Fri Aug 26, 2005 11:53 pm

That was a funny one.

I was searching around on the web and went to blind chicken racing and found the six by sixes and i think they will make up to even bigger if im not mistaken.

I think my arms are around 17 over long and 15 over wide and it ends up 96 inches wide with a 8 inch wheel.( By the way I haul it in the bed of my f 450.) You legally can be 102 inches wide with trailer or car. I think the wider and longer the better for more travel and stability. Hence a trophy truck or big class 1 is around that size. So it depends how far you want to take it huge or small or anything in between. Main goal for everyone FUN IN THER DESERT.......

I would like to get my suspension as wide and as long as i can, without having it be a chassis car. I think i might use the 6x6 rear arms and the a six inch wider front beam and as long and as wide arms up front. At most I would want the front beam moved forward three inches.

There was a question about realistic street rear end...

2.5x2.5 and 2x3 arms both use stock bay window bus axles and CVs---- this allows you not to have to order the $$$$ SwayAWays.

Scott the viking,

What size trailing arms do you have on your VW right now?

traviswx1 Mon Aug 29, 2005 6:36 pm

To 62 Bugzilla,

Do you have those size arms on a sedan or on a rail? If you have them on a baja do you have any pictures?

traviswx1 Mon Aug 29, 2005 6:39 pm

Does anyone know what the largest size front King and Link arms are and who makes them?

baja5 Mon Aug 29, 2005 6:46 pm

4x1.5 i think is the largest i have seen. check tweedsdesigns.com.

I have those arms on a baja and its on race dezert and desert rides in the show and tell section under kit racind trophy bug. Sorry I don't know how to put up direct link yet pm if you need location. It's 96 inches wide in the rear and I have 32 inch axles without having midboard hubs.

I am ashamed to say since they are so common  , I have 3x3's. I kept them on the small side for two reasons. One...I drive my car on the street. and two...I have an enclosed car trailer and I don't want to have to take off my paddles to get it in and out when I am at the dunes. With the 3x3's and the paddles it is kind of a tight squeeze as it is. I could have lived with switching wheels to get in and out of the trailer, but I like driving around town during the summer, it is not legal now, but I don't get any grief for it. I figure if it was any wider (fender to tire coverage) I would be a target.

Here's the link. I like it. Looks kinda like the Kreger built baja.

I'm not ashamed to admit that i have 3x3 trailing arms on my car. I have plenty of suspension and it looks killer. It fits in the trailer and is street legal. Some guys would like to have larger trailing arms and that's ok too, but i've heard of guys getting upwards of 18 inches of travel with 3x3 arms and that's pretty respectable.Any more travel than that and you might as well go to a full A arm set up.

scott the viking Wed Aug 31, 2005 10:46 am

I was only joking around about being ashamed of my 3x3's.
I too have heard claims of 18 + inches of travel with 3x3's  . I really have no idea how they do that and still retain a usable cv angle. I know that there are those on a whole different level of fabrication skill than I am on, but even in my wildest thoughts I don't know how they are doing it. Unless there is some super cv's that I am not aware of. Mine max out at around 28 degrees. What's the most angle you have heard of from a cv?

934 turbo are the primo joints on the market if i'm not mistaken

scott the viking Wed Aug 31, 2005 10:57 am

Yeah, I think you're right. Any idea what they max out at?

62 bugzilla Thu Sep 01, 2005 12:10 am

I've heard any where from 25 to 28 . It mainly depends on horsepower and weight. They make a 930 joint look small in size and price.

scott the viking Thu Sep 01, 2005 6:49 am

So there is really no difference in the angle that they go. I personally have never broken a 930.

SHMO Thu Sep 01, 2005 10:29 am

I think 930 CV's are safe to about 24-25 degrees, 28 is pushing the limits big time. a 934/935 joint is good to about 28-29 degrees, I believe. And, like Bugzilla stated, they are WAY more money. Where you now pay roughly $55-$65 a piece for a 930 CV, expect to pay about $250 for a 934/935. And, what's the point unless you can swing the midboard hubs, 4-piston calipers, Micor stubs, 300M, Titanium this, Unobtainium that and beadlock wheels with BFG projects to go with them?...lol
