I am trying to replace the front wings on my 1978 VW transporter. I can find no information, with diagrams or photos, on how to go about it. Can anyone point me to a site, or does anyone know of a good book, that will show me?

Is the front wing the door?

Sorry, I meant the front arches, below the doors. Thank you

No offense but isn't "wing" British for "fender"? Do Buses have fenders?

If I remember correctly they call the front doors on a bus a wing. They kind of look like one when they are all the way opened up.

This isn't precisely what your looking for, but it does seem to be a good description of replacing panels and what to think about while you're doing it :

Like Jeremy said go to www.type2.com, go into the tech articles library, go to categories and hit body, go to body panel replacements and scroll down to Bay front wheel arch replacement. Have on hand a good die grinder and some bits to drill out the spot welds around the arch lip. This is for a total replacement. Very good pictures in this article, helps a lot. Best parts source, my opinion is Bus Depot every thing I purchased from them was dead on in fit, makes it a lot easier. Complete geniuine VW arch was on sale at that time, think it runs around $100.00 now or you can just get the outer skins. This article was on an older bus mine was a 79.
