I used a high flow porsche 914 oil pump and it works wonders. The can be bought from engine builders supply.

Like what? The machining is already done to clear the Type 4.

Quote: I e-mailed them last Thursday wih questions about the mods and I still have not received a response. Now it's probably too late to order and get it before Oct 11th (my engine removal day with Colin).

If you didn't get a reply, are you sure your email went through? Try sending again making sure you don't have any attachments or funky sig files on your email or it will get dumped into thier spam filter.

As for getting it before October 11th, why would it be too late for that? That's still 3 weeks away. You can recieve it by this weekend if you wanted. Even early next week if you have it shipped UPS Ground. You do know they do same day shipping if you order it before the big brown truck comes to pick up from them, don't you?

Quote: I'd call them but they don't give their number...

If you click on the link on thier main page titled "Contact info", you get this page:
http://www.aircooled.net/gnrlsite/siteinfo/contact.htm
E-mail addresses, Physical address location, phone number, even the fax number is listed there.

Have a nice day! :D

I didn't send an attachment or any signature and it was sent from my machine succesfully so I assume it went there. My question was about :

"On a type 4, you will still have to spot face (grind) the cam bolt heads to make sure they clear the pump body. With the T-4 Pump Option, we have modified the pump body correctly to give you the clearance you need for proper pump operation."

and to verify the type 4 is immune to "overwhelming the stock oil pressure relief valve" while running 20-50 in the winter.

I know they modify it but it appears that I still need to make modifications to my engine and I needed clarification as well as a few other questions.

Thanks for the number I never saw it. I'll just call them and hopefully I can get it ordered in time. I had just heard someone waited 3 weeks for an SVDA once and if I don't get it by the 10th I won't be able to put it in.
Thanks again

Flabay thats the one but I paid like 50.00 bucks for it 2 years ago. Guess prices are going up drastically. I remember that you have to remove the existing studs for the oil pump and replace with the longer ones that are included with the pump. Also on the back of the pump there is the tab that mates with the cam to turn the pump well the body that the tab comes out of had to be filed down to avoid making contact with the cam.

Just speaking from experience of building numerous 1776 type 1 bus motors with melling oil pumps and external oil coolers and have not had any leaking oil issues. If you are careful using your sealant and gaskets and don't contaminate with engine oil the gasket areas you shouldn't experience oil leaks. Just my personal opinion but I have used gaskacinch on my engines and experienced a non leaking engines and success! Thanks for your consideration, Hans

Using melling pumps for more than 15 years now and not a single drop of oil leaked, can't see when it's not leaking that it can suck air??!!
These pumps do not expand so much as aluminium pumps do so they keep the pressure to the max!!
