Ive got a mid 70's bug with formula VEE on the sides, what does this mean? Is it a special edition or what?
Thanks! |

It's a trim package. Mechanicaly it's just another Beetle... nothing special. |

Formula Vee was a class of single-seat race track vehicles based on VW Beetle mechanicals like the front axle, the 1200cc 40hp engine and 4-speed tranny. Started in early 1960's. SCCA rules were very strict as to parts usage and modifications, to keep the cars very uniform. Became a hugely successful racing class since this was the "entry level" track racer and the competitiveness came from individual driving skill. VW of America banked on this racing class to categorize their accessory program in the late '60's. Lent a bit of 'speed" to the Beetle. Yes, the "Vee" stood for "Volkswagen". |

Glenn, I certainly have not kept up with FV racing developments, but your top shot shows something interesting: a doghouse oil cooler (40hp never had them) and NO fan shroud! So the engine gets enough cooling air over the cylinders just from the ram-air effect of the body shroud behind the driver while the car is underway? |
