does anyone know if any VW folks are living in Antartica right now?
the reason i ask, i tell folks i have shipped to every continent except Antarctica, so i thought it would be cool to find someone there and sell them a VW part.
so i could say i have shipped to all 7 continents!
it is a small thing, but it would be kinda cool to be able to say that, let me know if you got any ideas. |

| That would actually be a huge thing. Even if I was working there, no one lives there that I’m aware of, I would want my stuff shipped to my home of record. Not sure who would even facilitate shipping to McMurdo anyway. But if you pull it off let us know it would be neato. |

Try shipping to Tristan da Cunha. It's 2700km from the nearest continent. It can take months to get something there since it's only serviced by occasional ships.
BTW... no cars, but maybe a VW generator ;) |

| yeah, vw shipped a total of 3 bugs to antartica, late 60's early 70s, one red, two orange, wanted to show off how they can hold up under the worst conditions, evidently the biggest issue was the front frame would crack, around the front end beams. claimed the hard ice washboard trails combined with the super low temps roads hammered it to death. they also ran chromed valve covers to help HOLD THE HEAT IN - yep, everything chrome maybe not the best idea. |

Australia and other countries obviously runs bases in Antarctica, and has for many years. The Antarctica VW came from Australia and there are some interesting articles on those cars.
The big problem nowadays is that there is so much residual pollution left over on the pristine environment that concerted efforts are being made to remove all the detritus. Left over fuel drums, general waste, human waste, plastics etc.
It's a bit like saying that it is OK to not have to retrieve the latest Spacex Starship booster rockets in the ocean, because "we never intended to recover them anyway".Humans seem to just use the environment to dump their wastes without worrying about their consequences.
The cost and perhaps the permissions to ship to the Antarctic would be onerous.
One may (unkindly) say that sending to that pristine and protected environment is frivolous and should be dissuaded. |

| well i would tend to agree, humans tend to dump our trash everywhere, but if i could find a vw guy in antartica, if he/she buys something, i could send it someplace else, but still call it an antartica sale,,,, |

There are VPN sites in Antarctica, so a customer could VPN there and place an order so the originating IP address will be from there.
But then that's cheating ;)
The real test is to actually ship a part to Iran or North Korea.
I was contacted and when I found he was in Iran, I passed since I didn't want to be on a FBI watch list. |

That was before the current administration.
The Post Master told me i'd have to fill out forms, the distributor would have to be inspected by US Customs and there would be a file created... I believe her. |

Australia "administers" 42% of Antarctica and has a number of permanent bases there. US has the largest one at McMurdo Sound.
Here is some info on "sending" items to Antarctica say from Australia. As I feared it looks unlikely that you can get unnecessary items to there. Perhaps the US has different rules.

| I’ve worked there taking Thz data, you won’t be shipping trivia there easily. It’s as expensive as space. You could go up to Glenville NY and try to convince a handcarry of a logo to someone to get cred. |

I think one of the imperial penguins had a part in Herbie goes to Monte Carlo or something? :P
It's funny you mention that because the other day I was looking up information on Tasmania... there were a few islands around there that have boat (ferry) rides to Antarctica...
Some for hours and some less...GL |
