Does anyone know if the auto stick used a special Solex 34 Pict 3 for a 71 year model (1600cc DP Bug)? In other words, was there an extra vac port on the carb or did it just use the stock Solex used on the standard transmission?
Thank you very much,

All the Autostick models came with a different Solex carb. I'm not exactly sure just what internal variations there were, or differences in the the location of where the vacuum ports tapped into, or if it was just a the total number of vacuum ports, or what all. If you look at the base of the carburator, by where the accelerator cable attaches, there is a small letter/number combination stamped there. That was the series number of that carb. The old Garwood book listed several of these and at one point I combined all the info I could find into a single chart for the 34 series.

Thank you Andy, that is just what I was looking for. You wouldn't happen to have a similar list for the earlier carbs and distributors would you?
Once again, thank you for taking the time to make a list like this, and for sharing it.

Yes I do have a similar chart for the 30 series carbs.
By the way, these charts are not by any means totally complete. I have seen base flanges with different numbers than these listed. And in 1970-71 I guess VW or Solex temporarily stopped using the base flange numbers as well.
note, if these charts are hard to read, click to enlarge:

My '71 Ghia had a port on the side of the throat of the intake manifold just below the carb. If that helps any. It was a crazystick too. |
