who has sucessfully installed eyebrows on their beetle??... just got some stainless steel eyebrows from CIP for our 67 and had one hell of a time trying to get them to seat properly under the headlight rings... any suggestion...? its's alway so frustrating when something that should be so simple turns into a pain in the butt!

Are they for '67 or pre '67?

I did this twice (I lost one on the road and had to buy a new set!!) They don't come curved quite right, and you have to GENTLY bend them to fit your headlight rings.

I found that this is semi-easily accomplished by placing the eyebrow on your own leg, just a bit above your knee, with the curve of the eyebrow facing downward, points going toward your feet. Very gently- be careful not to crimp the eyebrow in the middle -bend the eyebrow over your leg, just a little bit at a time, checking it against the ring, bend a little more, check, bend etc. moving the eyebrow to different positions on your leg to get the bend right.

It's a pain, but the eyebrows are SO worth it! Love the look.

IMHO I think those eyebrows were designed for the Pre '66 style headlights. But quite a few Pre 67 owners install them as well.

With those eyebrows installed, do they difuse the headlight beam downwards too severly to impair visibilty at night?

Not at all, and I drive mountain roads home every night. I drove it with stock headlights with and without the eyebrows. If anything, the eyebrows seemed to help a little in the way they reflect the light down onto the road. It didn't have a negative effect at all.

Because of the my driving conditions (unlit, windy mountain roads through redwood forest with lots of deer) I did upgrade my headlights though from stock to a brighter headlamp just recently, but they were stock before that.

Thanks!! :D Mine is a '67 too. A bit customized in some funny ways by the former owner. I'll look forward to seeing photos of your car when you get the 'brows on!

Claire,

That's a sweet little ride and the eyebrows look nice. Great tips for installing them too. I had to manipulate the pair that I bought for my '64 so it's not a problem that is unique to post 66 cars. My '71 vert is yellow too and after seeing the pics of your car, I might have to add a set of eyebrows this weekend. 8)

Peace!

Thanks! There's just something about the eyebrows that add so much personality. Let's see some pics of your cars with 'brows!! 8) I don't see too many on the road.

Very easy you have to dismantle the head light than fix the eyebrow in place and re-assemble it.
It will take you some 20 mins. to do a perfect job

On my '67 it isn't necessary to remove the headlamp. Just the beauty ring that holds it in place. One screw only. That's the kind of stuff I can work on!
