I've heard about the hinge pin removal tool the dealers used to have. Does anybody have a picture of one? Seems to me there would be a market for it . I replaced one on my 58 and it was a bitch.

Are you talking about the deck lid hinge pins?

Sorry, no I'm talking about the doors.

There's a tool made by Eastwood (I think that's the company name). If you do a search here you'll find more info and a picture.

The eastwood hinge pin remover does not work on the vw's. Snap On sells some hinge pin remover you can attach to an air hammer. It worked on mine, but that was before paint. I wouldn't want to try it on a painted car.

Thanks markm I'm still aways from paint so I'll probably go that route.

I remember seeing a clever tool that attaches to your impact hammer but can't find it this minute - John Henry's site maybe (www.thebugshop.org)
From memory, it looked like he cut a chisel and welded a hardened bolt to it. Using the impart hammer, it is used to drive the pin out of the hinge.
