I need a transmission for an 87 Cabriolet and stumbled across JVD. I had sent him an email a month or so ago about an engine and got sporadic replies, nevertheless I emailed him for more information just now. Then I decided to see if I could find out a little more about his company so I googled him and found you guys... I've checked out thesamba.com before, but I'm really glad I found it now... Sorry for everything I'm reading that you guys have been through.
I'm originally from the UK, and worked for a great volkswagen specialist called Resto Classics, and I really wish they were in the US!! I've read about boston engine in these posts, are they who you would recommend for transmission too? Any other ideas if not? I definitely want to avoid what you've all been through and I want the best for my car.
Thanks in anticipation, and best of luck to you all!
Incidentally, maybe there is a way to "disrupt" his web prescence to save any more people being duped by him... Just a thought.. |

Thanks! These both appear to be fairly aircooled focussed, but I'll contact them and see. Thanks again. |

Your first mistake was to go with them... like mine and many others.
I had gotten a BOL number but strangely (and I'm being sarcastic here) my engine hadn't been picked up on the day it was supposed to... not the next day either. ...and on the third day, behold, it was sent. So sayeth Old Dominion. Amazingly enough, the BOL number was legit!
Don't expect any of the following:
1. Consistent communication.
2. Pictures of your goods prior to shipment.
3. Any timelines given to be accurate.
Instead, expect:
"Oh I couldn't get to it because..."
"It'll be there tomorrow..."
"I didn't get that email..."
Keep on him and you will end up with something... may or may not run, may or may not be in one piece or even complete.
Have you read this post from the beginning?? Have you checked the links to the website in this thread? I suggest if you haven't, that you take a while to do so. Feel free to PM me if you want more info.
Welcome to the club. |

I know Ken personally, he can rebuild you're tranny or send you one of his.
He does good work, owns the business, worked there for years, and still works in the shop even though he owns German Transaxle now.

Like the title states, I finally got my '61 Beetle back from this guy... Fortunately it's missing a lot of parts and the quality of the work which was done is pretty much crap. The only thing right, in fact, is the color. Great work, man, great work.
Check out the pictures I posted to the gallery and see for yourself. |

Jose Ortega Just Vee Dubs/V Dubs World what ever this guy wants to call himself is a crook and I (or he) just proved. I took this guy to small claims court and the judge ruled in my favor. Ortega didn't show and for good reason. When you know your guilty, and I had him dead to right with plenty of evidence, it is best to run then to face your fate. I live in FLA and it didn't stop me from taking this guy to court. If the statues of limitations still is in your favor gather your reciepts, emails and such go to http://www.metrocourt.state.nm.us and file, it is so easy. Pay the court cost that can be rolled back into the case and he has to pay for that.
This guy needs to be shut down we all agree. Aim for the wallet.

Congrats on taking the initiative and winning. I have to ask if you have any chance of getting that money? This seems a lot like the case regarding Miroan Works and his spindle business.:
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=89919&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0
DeluxeMike took Miroan to court and won, but the cost of getting the money back was not worth it he said. The plaintiff and defendant are in separate states, just as you and Just Vee Dubs are.
I guess you made your point with the courts, but will you follow through and go for collections? |

He doesn't use that web site any longer, I don't think. He's moved on to the "VDubs World" name. That is, until he splits town again.
It is funny that it's still up.
It's already been determined that the "Golf Course Rd" address is bogus - rather there WAS nothing to do with VW in that location. Not sure about now, as I don't live in ABQ. |

weshope said in a different message...
Quote:
Hello,
I have had one of the worst experiences of my life dealing with a guy named JOSE ORTEGA who was doing business as JUST VEE DUBS. Since receiving my engine in March, he has been unreachable via internet and phone. He did reply to me once to tell me JVD is no longer in business. I believe he is also doing business as VDUBS WORLD and ONLINE IMPORT AUTO PARTS. Do yourself a favor and don't do business with this crook.
It all started when I sent him a 1600CC for a "Premium Rebuild" back in November of 2006. I was told it would take six weeks - it was more like 4 months. It's funny how he didn't have a problem calling me before he got my motor, but once he got it, it took and act of congress for him to call me back. I think I left him at least 10 messages via e-mail and phone to his one reply.
I sent a complete motor minus the heater boxes and muffler and got back most of the parts. He decided to keep my thermostat, bracket, control rod, and cooling flaps. He also kept my lower engine tins and the hard to find upper rear coolin tin pieces. He didn't bother to buy a $5 can of engine paint and paint anything on the case. He did paint over the grease and dirt on the cooling tins that I did get back. He did manage to leave off 3 case nuts and didn't send my oil pressure switch back. I would have been better off to take it to a votech school and let a bunch of students work on it. The only reason that I sent the motor to this clown was because I thought it would save me some time. I was wrong. I have had to re-do all of the tin work and track down the missing pieces.
JOSE ORTEGA stole from me and I am in the process of filing complaints with the NM Attorney General's office and the BBB. The BBB said he has a "D" rating as it stands right now. I hope to make it an "F". I also plan to submit paperwork through small claims court.
I have sent JOSE ORTEGA no less than 30 e-mails in the last month requesting my missing parts, which as of today has cost me $150 minuns my time to replace and I still don't have all that I need. I have tried to call the number that I had on him, but it has been diconnected. This guy is a COWARD and hides behind the veil of the internet. I have every message that I have sent him and every one that I have received. He has no integrity or honesty.
I have been able to run my engine and it seems to idle and accelerate fine. I did pay for a 1776 engine, but who knows what I really received.
Sometimes we pay stupid tax and learn from it. I have learned now to call the BBB and check up on out of state companies before sending them something like an engine. DO NOT DO BUSINESS with JOSE ORTEGA!
Jiminy Christmas... this guy's still at it and from the looks of it, about to make another move. Anyone in ABQ heard about any of that? |

Jose has apparently changed company names once again. He is now doing business as ONLINEIMPORTAUTOPARTS.COM. Maybe you guys who are savvy in the area of finding where this company is located can get us an address for Jose so we can express our gratitude.

Wes, I'm hoping that Wayne over at allaircooled takes Jose off his vendor list. I've looked through the SWBBB (southwest Better Business Bureau) site and can only find a listing for his old business name (justveedubs), and of course; Jose knows better than to list his address. Just a P.O. box and phone number (that he screens and doesn't return calls from). As he moves further east, he has become much more cautious. Unless someone locally (in New Mexico) can pinpoint him ... I've lost the trail. |

Thanks for the post. Is there a way to get in touch with Wayne and try to locate Jose that way? I can't believe anyone would do business with Jose. Obviously he hasn't screwed Wayne yet. I have slowly purchased my missing parts from Ebay. I have gone over my engine and it appears to be road worthy, but I can only tell so much from doing test runs on the chassis (I'm knee deep in a body of restore on my '74 convertible). I have found a guy in Johnson City, TN who has tons of old parts and even more knowledge. I wish I had found him last year before sending my motor to Jose. I also wish I would have found this site. Like many others before me, I have paid stupid tax and have learned from it. Any info you have about Jose would be appreciated. |

Wes,
You can PM Wayne over on allaircooled but he was just listing web links as a service (or so he thought) to his members. I doubt that he has any good contact information for Jose. He has since removed Jose and GEX from his web links list. I wish I had more info on Jose. Since his move to New Mexico (and the additional websites he operates) no one seems to have the up close and personal contact info on him. Keep us advised if you find anything (I recheck from time to time hoping I'll stumble on to some good addresses). |
