Hi Volks,

Just to say that I managed to get some original style Hazet rubber profile made to spec.

Please PM for any bulk buys.

Cheers,

A firend gave me his old hazet project, he never found time to fix it..
The plan is to blast and powdercoat, and save it for the afterworld :)

Picked up a Hazet 171 recently.

I've cleaned off some of the black spray paint to reveal a bit more of the blue, but won't restore this workhorse.

Hello,

I have been clearing out a barn on our farm and stumbled upon this Hazet Assistent:

As you can see, it is worse for wear. I'd be interested to know if anyone would know how old it could be? It has been in the barn for 30 years or more.

I would think everything on it is as orginial. The paint has flaked off a lot and there is surface rust.

I was thinking of trying to restore it myself, but before I even consider it, I wanted to know what I'm dealing with so that I can be as accurate to the original as I can.

Many thanks

Al

Collected the assistent from powdercoat today. Looks good.. :)
Better than how it looks 5 posts up 8) but lots of rust pits, no holes
I think I will put a thin rubber mat in the bottom of each tray

That’s a lovely job.
Good idea with a rubber mat on each tray

What part of the world are you in? Europe is less than the states - because they were not sold here. 400 euro for both in UK/EU is a decent price. Here you could almost pay that for one in great shape.

German vehicle tech in Scottsdale Arizona uses one as a community tool box. It is perfect for rolling around his compact shop. Bought it new over 10 years ago. As you can see, it is well loved.

Are new tires still available for the Assistants? Steerable and fixed?

new HAZET project arrived today:
1955 Hazet tool cart for Volkswagen workshops (never sold to end customers)

Original it is painted like a popcorn cart in light- & dark blue stripes (the colors of the sliding door slats - the rest light blue). Hazet bought it (or the hole company) HELKA and painted the "HELKA Favorit" (thanks for this information to mac_intosh) in Hazet colors. See also inside the Hazet company book "The HAZET chronicles 1868-2018" in the chapter "The Assistent" where its photo named only "Assistent for VW, 1955" - but no text or other hints.

restoration begins,

cleaning from red color of the knobs and the rest of the lock (left part incomplete, part with the hole for the padlock is missing)

and removing the sliding doors - at the back the slats simply fixed by 3 wires
