Still working on my pan. Just got it back from having bed liner on both sides of it....awesome. Routing hyd. clutch, brake and fuel lines, painting parts. Completion too far out to get real excited about having it ready by the time it gets warm.
SeeBee, would like to know what mfg and size of the tires you are running..they look ideal for what I have in mind. |

As some of you know I have been working on a body lift. There was some discussion on steering shaft alignment. I am using a super beetle u-joint shaft and part of the column. In these two pictures you can see that I welded the bottom couple inches of the super column to the bottom of standard column which is much longer. The shaft also had to be lengthened and the lower part of super shaft used because of bearing. I made a mistake and welded too close to the end of the super column and made the bearing holder come loose. Now I have to find a bushing that will work instead. The pieces are just tacked in pictures to check fitment. The second picture shows how the shaft fits underneath. For other pics of lift project click link below. This is what I am doing now. Just finished mounting seats and started wiring.

Yea, I am aiming for March 18th as the final date. I want to bring it to a VW show on March 18th. Looks like I may have to take off a day or two to get it done too. All that is left to do is the wiring and some misc painting. I used to wake up at 4:00 am and go out to the garage and work before work, but with all the cold weather it is just too hard to get out of a warm bed. Hopefully it will warm up and I can be ready for some spring cruising........

Hey Jim, Time's a runnin out. 34 days and counting. I hope you don't have as many problems as I have had. It fights me at every turn such as the bearing support coming out. I guess that was my fault. I put the engine in today and now it is sitting lop sided. I'm hoping that the spring plate bushings haven't seated yet and they are holding it of kilter. The plates were installed correctly, chassis level and the same angle with a protractor. I hope after I get it running and take it for a bonsai ride it will be level.
Hey Murzi, just start hooking things up. Start with the ignition and engine that way you can move it, however you will have to fight the urge to take off down the street. OK go ahead once. One thing at a time and eventually they will all be hooked up. |

Yea, I bet I have at least $200.00 in nuts and bolts and that is in just regular grade---not stainless. At some point, I am beyond it, you get sick at the money that goes into one of these things. I am ready to be done.

Things just seem to get in the way of finishing. I had hoped to get the body done this week, but there has been a holdup. If things dont start going better, FACT - O - BAKE may be the theme of the day. I have found that painters are a lot like artists, they will only give you so much leway to get the thing to them, after that, they ignore you......
keep your fingers crossed for me -
o, Chuck, i found the button head bolts for the body - there is a wholesale supply wearhouse just down the street from me - I wandered in and asked, they had them!!! |

There are other pictures there, but the lift pics are pretty self explanatory.
It is made of plastic decking from Home Depot. Two boards Liquid Nailed together. If you have any questions feel free to ask.
BTW it is on a Berrien chassis. |

Today:
Took engine tin to get powder coated. Had a stroke of luck, he was running a lot of the color that I wanted on Wednesday, so I got it done for $50.00 including the sandblasting...
Polished the Alternator, cylinders and intake manifolds of Kadrons (still looks like shi. though - gotta start over).
I tried to play body man and fill in the pin holes in the body - BLEW IT! I put way too much resin on, now it is a major sand and re-seal job.
Installed Aluminum bolt on rocker covers. (looks good)
Drilled floorboard for install of e-brake and pedal cluster.
Ran out of time to do anything else - will be in the garage till midnight re-polishing the alternator and intakes. |
