They are good only if you plan on selling the car. You will find that after a year they will begin to rust. They are also thinner metal than stock. I wouldn't touch them. There aren't any good after market bumpers. Best bet is to get some good used OEM ones.Easy enough to find for your year on Samba or a used part place. If needed, have them rechromed, it's not cheap, but it's the best way to go. |

There's nothing like original... I had mine rechromed and painted the backside with POR 15. |

I read somewhere that you can/should clearcoat cheap bumpers to help prevent rust. Let me see if I can find it...
Ah, here it is: http://members.tripod.com/~thomasamiller/volkswagenrestoration.html
From down near the bottom: "5) Before installing your new bumpers, protect them with a clearcoat of spray paint. Or, if you would rather not paint them, then rub on some Durashine Car polish. All you do with this stuff is rub it on and hose it off. Which ever method you choose, make sure you you apply the protection before you mount the bumper so you can get in every nook and cranny."
Has anyone tried this? |

Maybe.. .but you still have cheap bumpers that offer no protection. |

If your going with cheapo bumpers you should paint the inside and wax it religiously. You may get an extra year or 2 before rust starts coming through the chrome. Due to the inferior metal and/or chroming it will rust through the chrome even if you paint the inside. I tried the clearcoat idea once on a bumper I was going to trash and it looked like I had smeared vasoline on it. |

Depends on how much you want to spend.
(1) Best quality/most expensive: Get some OEM bumpers and have them re-chromed.
(2) Second best solution: Get the thick aftermarket chrome bumpers I linked to earlier. Paint the inside and keep them waxed.
(3) El-Cheapo solution: Get the thin aftermarket bumpers. They are better than nothing.....I guess.
Another idea is if you don't mind not having chrome bumpers you can click on the link I provided earlier and get those thick aftermarket bumpers with the primer coat. You can then paint your bumpers inside and out and probably not worry about rust. |

Yeah, I thought the "REAL" Briz are pollished alluminum. If they are polished alluminum, there is no chrome. Just keep em polished with Mothers. |

These are the aluminum...pollished ...so no rust, no chrome. They also have the brackets and bolts listed for them. Hope this helps. :D |

My Mexican Bug came with body color bumpers. White with a black tape stripe (like the 60-up US cars but with a thicker stripe section). They were pretty scratched and ragged looking after a few years so I had the tape removed and had them powdercoated 2 tone-white with a black stripe, so they look factory but will last much longer.
And I also agree, how can aluminum Briz bumpers rust?? I had their running boards, quality seemed far better than stock |

Here is a pic of a 3 rib on my 72...... The only thing that I didn't like is they do NOT come pre drilled so you have to line them up and drill them. They are ALUMINUM and I just shot them with 3 coats of clear to keep them nice and shiney.
