Somehow one of my lug bolts ( fits 55-56 rear bus brake drum) totally Bermuda Triangled itself out of existence... possibly I punted it across the shop but I have searched and nada.... for me this kinda thing is more frustrating than breaking off an exhaust stud. - I looked for a couple hours.... GRRRRRR possibly my impact gun tossed it and I failed to see this happen..
my question is - what is it, and are these fairly or somewhat standard across a multitude of VW years and models and or even other vehicle manufacturers.... I will head to the used parts guys at some point if I don't find it - or see if I can get just one new one - doubtful??? I have never paid attention or researched lug nuts or bolts as I always had them.
I know it's kind of a remedial question... but I am totally new to this beast and VW in general. |

Same lug bolt fits 50-70 bus front and rear.
also later beetles. IIRC, my 69 bug uses the same bolt, but I think earlier bugs use a more slender bolt.
Basically, about every VW place should have some used ones kicking around.
If you want to get crazy og with the cosmetics, you might be looking for early part number lug bolts, which were used through early 56 . Early bolts have flat tops, later are dished.
Here's a blurry pic of my Jan 56 camper's early lug bolt:

thank all - for the info!!
It looks like there are primarily 2 types of VW lug bolts: ( for vintage Vdub)
14mm
12mm
now I know!! The bus drums need 14mm |
