Hi,

I am toying with idea of getting a 2.0L type 4 engine, rebuildinging and converting it to upright. I would be doing conversion as specifed by conversion manual provided by http://www.nextgen-usa.com/.

I was told to look for bus engine. Does anybody know what year(s) are the good for type4 2l engine?

thanks,
Anton

Excellent choice!

The Type 4 is all we do!

Check out the links below in my signature..

Beginning in the June issue of Hot VWs a comprehensive Type 4 conversion build up will begin.. We spill the beans on a 170HP daily driver!

Look for a case # that starts with GD. Those are your 2 liters

actually they are
GA,GB,GC,GD and GE

if doing an upright conversion stay away from the CV cases from the aircooled Vanagon, they are 2 liters inside but the cases are difficult to convert.

Jake does get a lot of references! :)

anyway i was able to dig this up: https://www.busdepot.com/links.jsp
judging from the engine # specs that would be 73-79 bus.

I am definetly going to need some parts from massivetype4 like generator stand, and crank pulley. Somethings I can definetly fabricate myself but machine work is outa to be done by pros.

thanks!
Anton

P.S. Looking forward to the June issue of HVWs.

You're making the right decision. I just had my 1964 Beetle converted to T4 and the drive is outstanding. The flat, beefy torque curve and generally understessed feeling of power makes driving in modern traffic a snap. Be prepared to do some modifications to your car to maximize your use of the additional power and speed, especially a properly-geared transaxle. And yes, Jake Raby is the T4 authority.

Sounds like you might be the perfect guy for this engine I have for sale..

Its an excellent entry level engine and has components already fitted to allow 180daily driver HP later down the road.

Go browse my store.

my car is pretty much ready for engine upgrade. When I got it I took from breaks to handling and steering fixups.

Now i am working on the powerplant. That engine looks good, only problem is I am on the budget and planing on doing most of the assembly and fabrication work myself. Mainly because i love to do most of the work myself and i will appreciate it more in the end.
