Actually the chassis is very very cool but will a bus fit on it? I'm sure you have done your homework on it. |

We're 99,99% sure that our calculations are acurate, and that the new chassis will fit under the combi body.
We've taken measurements from my own 1967 SO42 for refference, and if somewhere down the line we
made a mistake, we'll cut it up, and start all over
btw, all the welding is done with a TIG welder, and the material is stainless steel, so maybe that's the answer
for you guys who think that the welding looks strange or too hot .. when did you see a stainless steel chassis
for a car, let alone for a splitwindow bus 8) |

btw I use a TIG welder and weld stainless steel, it does look like you need some more filler rod in the corner, it looks to be blown threw of some sorts, im not putting your work down by no means but just helpin out, i havent done a complete frame yet but i have welded for some time.
Keep up the sweet work though. |

We mounted the front A-arm setup, with the shortend 911 strut and our own design hub and
the Porsche 993 Turbo disc, 996 Caliper and modified 17" rim to see if everything worked out
well. We now had the wright factory settings from Porsche for the angle and wheel camber of
the front struts. The final design of the 'towers' for the front shock absorbers will be different,
because we faced some minor problems. (towers in picture are temporary ones)
Dampers that we're gonna use are Porsche 944 Turbo -koni yellow- rear shocks.
Jer*Fab wrote: it does look like you need some more filler rod in the corner
We don't use any filler .. we only "melt" the material .. we're not adding any filler or material.
We do appreciate it that you and other samba visitors give us constructive criticism on this project.
Thanks !!

Hee Peter !!

Yesterday we mounted the new A-arm setup to the chassis, and this time everything turned out well.
We switchted the front 911 struts from left to right, so we could mount the steering box (T3 transporter)
in front. When the steering box was behind the struts, left was right, and right was left
The calipers mounts were in front of the wheel, now they are behind it.
The standard 911 torsions are still in the lower A-arms (not in this picture  ), the top A-arms are home
made. Shocks are 944 Turbo rear shocks, now Bilstein, was Koni.
As we speak, a bracket is being made for the steering box and the towers for the shocks can be made
for the last time.
More to come next week !!

This all looks really good. I am curious to know why you don't use filler rod? Is it just to keep the welds really clean?
I am looking forward to seeing the body mounted! |

No, we haven't .. that's why it took nearly a year to find time to put the project back on track.
Last monday we welded some rails on some stands witch are 100% level, in both directions.
All the parts are cleaned, painted and all the new suspension parts (dampers, bearings and
bushings) are here, so no more excusses to wait another 8 months for the next update !!

where is that deluxe that had the entire body cut off the undercarriage?
a bus that was hacked in that manner would be a perfect compliment to this project. |
