Help folks I am looking for a picture of a 1974 westy water tank mine is missing and It dosen't show it in my westy owners manual (yes I have it with the origonal VW owners manual)
I am trying to restore the system and undo all the P/O hack jobs like the entire icebox set up missing ( a picture of the stove and ice box would rock also).
thanks in advance I am replacing the canvas next weekend and want to take this thing out soon and test the 2110 torque monster engine on a real trip.

Dan~ Here are a couple of photos I have collected of the fridge/stove cabinet, which I am missing also. I will try to get you a photo of the water tank later today. What color is your bus and your upholstery?

The 74/75 deluxe Westy tank looks identical to the 76-79 Westy tank EXCEPT for the location of the pump and drain holes.
On 76-79, they are on the same end as the fill pipe hole. The large end.
On 74/75, they are on the opposite end, the small end.
I just sold both of them. Should have taken pics..... pictures explain it easier. |

Karl do you think you could put a 76/79 in and re do the plumbing I know I can find a 76-79 the 1973 I have isn't even close
I am not shooting for a 100% period correct resto but it needs to look fairly period and any mods need to be hidden.
Thanks again

I thought I remembered seeing a vendor who sells water tanks for some Westfalia years, but couldn't find it. Try reading this topic and the link included in it. If you can't find a new tank, try placing a want-to-buy ad in the Samba classifieds to locate a used tank.

If you or any one can take a picture of what it is supose to be i can go from there .
Thanks
Dan
Ps if any one needs a 73 console with good ice box let me know. |

Here ya go. Hope these help. There may be some small details that aren't completely original, but it's very close, eg. collapsable tire is gone, support strap is replaced, the PO did something funny with the siding. The camera has a way of finding dirt and stains I haven't noticed before. Gotta reach in a little further with the furniture oil-on-a-rag.

Not sure if this person still has it 4sale, but here is the tank:

If not, and you do find a tank, MAKE sure the two outlets on the bottom are on the small and away from the filler hole.
If the two outlets are on the big end, same as the filler hole, THAT is a 76-79 tank. |

I know for a fact that the guy at BustedBus has one of those tanks for that year, because he sent me one instead of the one I needed for my '78. It was an honest mistake and he sent me the correct one right away. Give him a try, because if I remember right he said he had a few of them. -b |

I have a water tank I pulled out of a older van quite awhile back. I am cleaning my shed out and listing parts I don’t need. But I noticed that the tank I have has the water pump and drain located under the tall part of the tank instead of under the narrow part like seen in this post. So now I am wondering why and how to list it. Is this not a standard 70’s westfalia tank? Why would it be reversed? I can’t find many photos online or much info on these. Any help would be appreciated.

My 77 westy has the fittings like yours in the back under the long side. It slides into the cabinet with the long part in the rear, and the shorter part facing you. |
