View original topic: Supertrapp for Street
gfw1985 Sat Jun 03, 2006 1:41 pm

Running Empi 4 to 1, off road, merged exhaust on my buggy. Looks identical to Tri-mil. 1 5/8" tubes, 2" final collector.

Need to tone it down a bit for driving in town.
Anyone ever used Supertrapp muffler w/disc's to control backpressure and db's?
1600cc dual port
dual weber 34 ict's

They work well and some say forrestry approved spark arrestor which is a good thing.

I bought a bag full of little washers and put them on every bolt between every disc. I think it helped the top end but didn't really make it that much louder.

I have a 1 5/8" setup with a supertrapp and it does quiet it down enough that the cops aren't on my ass about it, but it's still pretty loud when I get on it.

and that voids the spark arrestor approval as well

Thanks guy's. Dealing on 12" w/two end caps and disc's for each.

It may indeed void the spark arrestor part?????? Who cares as long as the ranger see's it stamped on there, performs well, and keeps the rain out.

obviously I don't ride in wooded area's or I would have a twinge of guilt.

Is a spark arrestor required in the sand, more specific little sahara ok?

It's about decibels on the sand over here. Which pisses a lot of guys off...because they will nail a buggy and let a four stroke quad that is nearly twice as loud..roll right on by. My car is turbo charged...so it's pretty quiet, but more than one in my camp have fallen victim to the decibel meter.
Supertrapps work great, you can REALLY see the difference as to where the power comes in by adding or subtracting discs. Not just on the dyno either...you can real feel it by driving.

I did not know they checked at Oklahoma. The last time I was there I saw several open header rails.
I run a hogged out super trap. It does not have anything on the inside. Just the disc's with spacers on it. I run a turbo so the sound is not to bad. Put it on to be a little more street legal.

Let me ask you this....what is the thought behind the spacers?

Less restriction. 0 washer's more restriction.Simular to adding or taking away disc's. 1 or 2 washer's between disc's is less restriction. Less restriction is better for turbo's.
I ran with an open pipe off the turbo but cop's did not like it. I have a street legal rail. I put the suppertrap on and it moved my boost up in the rpms a little. I hogged it out and put in the washers and it returned to near what is was with an open pipe.
Some people do it just for the sound also. Little lounder with the washer's.

Ahhh...so it's just instead of buying more discs?
you must have a lot hotter engine than I do...I could run just a straight through trapp with no discs on mine and totally pass for streetable sound.

If I take my disc's off there is nothing inside. It tapers down to the pipe comming off the turbo. All that is left of the suppertrap is the round stainless housing and the disc's. It is welded to the pipe comming off the turbo. It is almost like running a straight pipe off the turbo but to a cop it appears to have some type of muffler on it. It kind of looks legal

Ever try to run it with no discs and a supertrapp with the goodies inside?

c54fun Sun Jun 04, 2006 7:06 pm

I did use it that way with out the Turbo on it. Worked fine. Then when I added the turbo the outlet pipe was too big to attach the suppertrap. That is when I started hacking it up to make it work. Could have bought an adapter or something but it worked out ok.
I also like the long SS muffler. I like the looks and the sound of them. I ran one of those for a while also.
